At this time, in mid-August, under the golden sunshine like pouring honey, on the slopes of Cai Kinh mountain, custard apple growers are busy in the main custard apple harvest season. Ms. Trieu Thi Yen, residing in Than Muoi village, Chi Lang commune, Chi Lang district, happily said that her family grows about 500 custard apple trees. This year, the price is good from 50,000 to 70,000 VND/kg. Every day, she picks 5 big loads of custard apples, estimated at more than 200 kg of custard apples, earning over 7 million VND.

Similarly, Mr. Vi Van Tho, a resident of Chi Lang commune, planted about 900 custard apple trees, yielding about 6 tons and expected to earn about 250 million VND this year. The weather this year is also relatively favorable, with lots of sunshine and occasional light rain, so this year's fruit yield will probably be more stable than previous years...

Many households in Chi Lang, Mai Sao communes, Dong Mo town... from poverty and deprivation, thanks to growing custard apple trees, have now escaped poverty and have a stable life. Households growing custard apples all have an average income of 50 million VND or more; some households have an income of 500 million to 800 million VND.

Thanks to the development of custard apple trees, people's lives have stabilized, the commune no longer has hungry households, and the poverty rate is only about 0.8%. Currently, Chi Lang commune is a model new rural commune of the province.

According to the report, in the communes of Chi Lang district (old), the total custard apple growing area is more than 2,600 hectares, of which the harvested area is estimated at more than 2,000 hectares, the yield of harvested custard apple is 10.6 tons/ha, the output is estimated at more than 20,000 tons.

Ms. Tran Thanh Nhan, Secretary of Chi Lang Commune, said: In order to continue to maintain and uphold the certification mark for Chi Lang custard apple products and expand the market for custard apple consumption, every year, the locality organizes a Conference to Launch the Production of Custard Apples and Key Products in the direction of Good Agriculture . Organize trade fairs, introduce and organize communication seminars about the Chi Lang custard apple brand...

The locality has been promoting propaganda and mobilizing people in the communes and towns of custard apple growing areas to organize safe custard apple production to ensure food hygiene and safety conditions. Currently, the area of ​​custard apple production certified according to good agricultural standards is more than 903 hectares (of which GlobalGAP is more than 35 hectares; production according to VietGAP standards is more than 868 hectares); 12 model gardens for custard apple production according to VietGAP standards have been built. Production area codes have been built and issued for 40 hectares of custard apples in Y Tich and Chi Lang communes.

Chi Lang people are proud and make efforts to develop their hometown's specialty custard apple tree into a "golden brand product" contributing to sustainable poverty reduction.

“Up to now, Chi Lang custard apple products have achieved the 4-star OCOP product certification. Thanks to growing custard apples and “picking gold” on Cai Kinh mountain, Chi Lang people in Lang Son have reduced poverty sustainably and are moving towards getting rich on their homeland,” Ms. Tran Thanh Nhan shared.

Currently, hundreds of Chi Lang farming families are competing to build custard apple gardens and harvest the local specialty. They aspire to escape poverty and become rich legitimately on their homeland.
