It is important to understand that diabetes greatly affects eating and vice versa.

Therefore, health experts always emphasize the importance of controlling diet, building and maintaining a healthy diet.

In addition to minimizing red meat, large fish, sugary, greasy, and high-cholesterol foods, diabetics are also encouraged to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

However, there are 3 types of fruit on the "black list" that people with high blood sugar should stay away from, which are:

1. Durian

Durian is considered the king of fruits because of its extremely high calorie content, rich in nutrients and good for health.

However, this fruit has a very high glycemic index, up to 70, so eating durian can cause blood sugar levels to increase suddenly. This is very dangerous for people with diabetes, especially patients with gestational diabetes.

When eaten, blood sugar levels will increase, causing danger to both the fetus and the mother's body.

People who are obese or overweight should not eat durian during pregnancy. If you still want to eat it, you need to get your doctor's approval and eat the right amount.

2. Sugarcane

Sugarcane is one of the major crops used in sugar production, it produces 70% of the world 's sugar.

Sugarcane contains about 70 - 75% water, 10 - 15% fiber and 13 -15% sugar in the form of sucrose, which is the same as table sugar.

It is true that sugarcane also contains phenolic and flavonoid antioxidants, which help fight infections and boost immunity, but its glycemic index and carbs are too high, making it a "big deal" for diabetics.

In fact, just one 240ml cup of sugarcane juice with 50g of sugar will use 12 teaspoons of sugar.

This is significantly more than the total daily sugar intake recommended by the American Heart Association.

3. Dragon fruit

Dragon fruit belongs to the cactus family, originating from Central and South America. There are three types of dragon fruit: pink-red skin with white flesh, yellow skin with white flesh, and pink-red skin with red flesh.

Many diabetics think that because dragon fruit is not sweet, it must not have a high sugar content.

There are even rumors circulating among the people that eating dragon fruit helps treat diabetes, this is completely wrong and has no scientific basis.

In fact, the glycemic index of dragon fruit is quite high, ranging from 40 to 55 between types.

Diabetics should limit their intake of dragon fruit and remember to eat fresh fruit instead of smoothies or juices.

In addition, although red dragon fruit is more nutritious, it also causes blood sugar to rise much higher than white dragon fruit.

Instead, diabetics should eat fruits with a low glycemic index but rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants such as apples, grapefruit, papaya, peaches, kiwis... and eat more green vegetables.
