No longer the image of people rushing after work, after the merger decision, the pace of life in Long Xuyen slowed down, bringing with it mixed emotions and expectations in the hearts of the people.

Long Xuyen awaits change from the calm breaths

Slow down the pace of life

Walking through familiar streets such as Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Trai, Ha Hoang Ho, Nguyen Hue, Ly Thai To... the first feeling is silence, but not a complete absence but a slower pace of life. Coffee shops and restaurants that were usually bustling with customers are now quieter, the daily chatter has become much quieter. Traditional markets such as Long Xuyen and My Binh take on a hesitant, reserved look. The cries of goods are no longer hurried, but instead there are soft conversations between small traders and familiar customers. It seems that after the merger, everyone feels a sense of waiting...

The ferries still diligently take passengers across the river, but the atmosphere has calmed down. The green trees on both sides of the road, the rows of royal poinciana and purple-flowered lagerstroemia trees that are brilliant in the summer have all become quieter. Under that gentle shade, the elderly leisurely walk or ride old bicycles, the innocent children following their parents, all wearing a calm and peaceful look. “The most noticeable thing is the change in people's mood. If before, wherever we went, we could hear cheerful laughter, now the smiles on everyone's lips seem to have calmed down. People talk a lot about the changes, about new procedures, and how policies will be applied after the merger. Although it is quiet, the atmosphere of solidarity and sharing has not disappeared. Volunteer groups are still maintained regularly. Perhaps it is in times when we need to be calm that people appreciate each other more, cherishing every moment together,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (61 years old), residing in Long Xuyen ward.

Towards new expectations

Long Xuyen's position is now in a new administrative picture. This "quietness" is not necessarily negative. It could be an inevitable change, a necessary silence for Long Xuyen to reshape its role and identity in a larger institution. "Previously, Long Xuyen shouldered the pressure of a central city, where all resources and attention were focused. Now, with the shared role with Rach Gia, that pressure is dispersed, allowing Long Xuyen to have time to consolidate its internal strength and develop in a sustainable, less rushed direction. A quieter Long Xuyen will be a friendlier Long Xuyen, with less traffic jams and more space for the cultural and historical values that are the pride of this land", said Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien - an official working in Long Xuyen ward.

Many people also wonder, where will Long Xuyen find new development momentum? And more importantly, how will Long Xuyen people feel and adapt to this change? Perhaps it is in this quietness that Long Xuyen finds its own separate directions, no longer dominated by the pressure of a single capital. The merger is a new beginning. It may not be as noisy and hasty as before, but this quietness will be the premise for a deeper, more resilient and more unique Long Xuyen in the future of the new administrative unit - Long Xuyen ward.

“Long Xuyen today may not be as bustling as before, but this quietness is an opportunity to discover the hidden values, the simple but meaningful beauty of this land. People have time to connect, share and build a stronger community together. This is the time for local authorities to listen more, understand the wishes of the people, thereby making appropriate policies, creating the most favorable conditions for the development of Long Xuyen ward in the new context,” said Mr. Minh Hien.

The silence is a necessary moment for Long Xuyen to prepare for a new chapter with the potential of culture, history and dynamic people for generations along the gentle Hau River.
