The couple borrowed money from the maid and then ran away, forcing her to care for the newborn baby boy for months.
Over the past month, Chinese media has been abuzz with the strange story of a maid surnamed Yu. She said she was hired by a couple in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, to take care of their newborn baby boy for a monthly salary of 7,000 yuan (about $1,000).
The couple then told Ms. Yu that they needed to go to Tianjin to receive a large inheritance, including real estate and luxury goods. They asked Ms. Yu if she could lend them money to hire a lawyer and prepare the inheritance papers. To gain their trust, the couple showed the victim photos of the property they had inherited, as well as the ownership papers for a hotel. They also decided to leave their son with Ms. Yu while they were in Tianjin. This cleared up all of Ms. Yu’s doubts.
The maid continued to take care of the boy for months, even though the couple had cheated them out of their money and fled.
According to Oddity Central, Ms. Yu has not received any salary since November 2023, although she has been taking care of the baby boy while the owner is away. Worse, the maid has lent the couple a large sum of money, including personal savings and money borrowed from her brother. In total, the owner owes Ms. Yu more than 110,000 yuan ($15,600).
“I gave them all my personal savings, but I haven’t received any salary since last November. They owe me my salary, and also the money I borrowed from my brother,” Ms. Yu said.
The maid showed reporters photos of expensive watches, cars, and other luxury items that were part of the inheritance the homeowner said she would receive. She admitted that they may have faked everything to cheat her out of her money. In addition, after checking the ownership papers of a hotel in Harbin, Ms. Yu found traces of digital editing. In addition, the story that the inheritance came from a man the child’s mother had dated for more than 10 years was absurd, but Ms. Yu let herself be fooled.
The victim tried to contact the couple several times by phone and WeChat, but they seemed to have disappeared. She also contacted the hotel the couple said they would inherit, but they had no information. The only thing that bothered Ms. Yu was how the couple could abandon their son for just 110,000 yuan. For months, Ms. Yu has been caring for the child, hoping that one day the couple will return.
It is not yet clear whether the Chinese police have taken over the case for investigation. However, according to many comments on social media, the couple may not be the biological parents of the boy, so they cheated the maid of money and then heartlessly fled.
