In recent days, heavy rains have occurred in the Duc Co border district, damaging the vegetable gardens of Infantry Battalion 50 (Infantry Regiment 991, Provincial Military Command). As soon as the weather cleared, taking advantage of breaks and days off, officers and soldiers of the Battalion urgently reinforced the vegetable gardens.

Taking us on a tour of the unit's production area, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Trung, Battalion Commander of the 50th Infantry Battalion, shared: The unit is stationed in a border area where the weather is complex. However, implementing the campaign "The Army Logistics Sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings", the unit has effectively implemented production increase work.

Currently, the unit has more than 6 sao of land for growing vegetables and 4 sao of land for raising livestock. In order for the vegetables to grow well, we regularly bring in soil from other places to build net houses to protect against rain and sun. The unit also maintains a stable herd of livestock and poultry and grows seasonal vegetables to proactively source green vegetables, tubers, fruits, and food to ensure quality for the meals of officers and soldiers.

As evidence of what Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Trung just mentioned, from the gate of Infantry Battalion 50, one steps in and sees the vast green of vegetable and fruit gardens grown in greenhouses, interspersed with fish ponds, making the space of the unit cool and green.

Wiping away the sweat from his face, soldier Le Hong Minh (Platoon 2, Company 3) said: “After training, all officers and soldiers participate in increasing production. Seeing the vegetable gardens and chickens that we take care of ourselves grow day by day, we are very happy. Thanks to the efforts of officers and soldiers, meals in the unit always ensure food hygiene and safety, high quality. The health of officers and soldiers is also improved accordingly, contributing to the successful completion of assigned tasks.”

Currently, the production garden model has been deployed to commune-level military commands. Many permanent militia posts in border areas also have vegetable gardens to ensure the lives of officers and soldiers. Lieutenant Colonel Tran The Tung - Commander of the Pleiku City Military Command - said: Currently, the City Military Command has a concentrated production area at the unit's Training Center.

In addition, the Military Command of each commune and ward has vegetable gardens to increase production. Increasing production not only ensures clean vegetables for the meals of officers and soldiers but also creates a green, clean and beautiful environment. We always determine that increasing production is to feed healthy soldiers to better serve the training and combat readiness tasks of the units.

Thanks to the good implementation of production increase work, in the first 6 months of 2025, the amount of vegetables, tubers and fruits harvested by the provincial armed forces reached more than 94 tons, pork reached 11 tons, poultry reached 10 tons, and fish reached nearly 3 tons. Currently, units of the provincial armed forces are maintaining a herd of over 400 cows, a herd of over 2,000 pigs and a herd of over 12,000 poultry.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Anh Phuong - Head of Logistics and Engineering (Provincial Military Command) informed: From the beginning of the year, the work of increasing production has been included in the resolution on leading local defense and military tasks.

We guide units to organize production and livestock raising, build systems of gardens, ponds, and barns; train and foster knowledge and experience for cadres and logistics staff; apply effective production and livestock raising models of localities and other units. Thanks to that, the meals of cadres and soldiers are always of good quality, and the rate of healthy soldiers is always maintained at over 99%.
