In his speech reviewing the tradition, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City Command affirmed: “Over 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces have always promoted their revolutionary nature and heroic tradition, achieved many outstanding feats of arms, contributing to the liberation of the South, national reunification and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.”

Immediately after its establishment, the city's armed forces were resourceful and brave in organizing timely battles to break enemy attacks, sieges, and defeat the enemy's plot to strike quickly and win quickly, creating time for the city and the whole country to prepare for a long and arduous resistance war against French colonialism.

During the two resistance wars, the city's armed forces both fought and built up their forces, creating many unique fighting methods and achieving many resounding victories, contributing with the army and people of the whole country to liberate the South and unify the country.

Entering the renovation period, the Ho Chi Minh City Military has constantly innovated to improve training, combat readiness, build and firmly protect the city, while actively participating in the work of preventing and fighting natural disasters, epidemics, rescue - relief, maintaining security and order, promoting socio-economic development, building a civilized, modern, and affectionate city, shining the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period.

With its outstanding achievements, the Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces have been awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State three times, building a tradition of "Infinite loyalty, steadfastness, solidarity, discipline, dynamism and creativity, determination to fight and win".

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong warmly commended the outstanding achievements and feats of arms that the city's armed forces have achieved over the past 80 years.

Faced with the requirements of the tasks in the coming time, the city's armed forces need to continue to concretize and well implement the Party's resolutions; the City Command proactively studies, forecasts and correctly assesses the situation to advise the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee to well perform military and defense tasks; improve the overall quality, combat strength, build a defense area, a strong national defense suitable to the characteristics of the megacity, build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern city's armed forces, build a clean, strong Party organization, and a strong unit in all aspects. At the same time, proactively coordinate with the police and other forces to maintain political security, social order and safety...

On this occasion, authorized by the President, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Order to the Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces. Ho Chi Minh City leaders presented the traditional flag of the City People's Committee to the city's armed forces.
