To prepare for the match against Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10, Malaysia invited Cape Verde to play two friendly matches. In the first match on May 29, the Tigers held their opponents to a 1-1 draw.

This is not a FIFA-level friendly match, so it is only worth 5 points on the FIFA rankings. However, holding the team ranked 72nd in the world (59 places higher than Malaysia) also helps coach Peter Cklamovski's team gain 1 point.

Although still ranked 131st in the world, Malaysia has narrowed the gap with 130th-ranked Rwanda to 3 points.

Notably, the second friendly match between Malaysia and Cape Verde on June 3 is during the FIFA Days (national team gathering according to FIFA's schedule) so it will be scored with a coefficient of 10.

At that time, if they win against Cape Verde, Malaysia will be awarded 6.98 points, draw will be awarded 1.98 points and lose will be deducted 3.02 points. Therefore, if they win, the "Tigers" can improve their ranking significantly before the match with the Vietnamese team.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team is trying to come back after a long slump under coach Troussier. At one point, the “Golden Star Warriors” were pushed down to 119th place in the world. Now, the team has risen to 109th place. According to calculations, coach Kim Sang Sik’s team is still about 40 points behind the top 100.

The match between Vietnam and Malaysia is considered an official match according to FIFA's schedule, so it will be scored with a coefficient of 25. If we win against Malaysia, coach Kim Sang Sik's team will receive 11.06 points. At that time, we will significantly improve our position on the FIFA rankings.

Importantly, if they win against Malaysia right at Bukit Jalil Stadium, the Vietnamese team will almost open the door to participating in the 2027 Asian Cup.
