Newcastle have rivalled Manchester United for Benjamin Sesko and have made a similar offer but the 22-year-old prefers a move to Old Trafford. The striker will sign a five-year contract and become Ruben Amorim's fourth summer signing.
Manchester United will pay £66.3m up front and the remainder will be factored into potential add-ons for Sesko, who scored 13 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga last season. Sesko will travel to Manchester and undergo a medical before completing the move.
Sesko's arrival will take Manchester United's total spending to £214m, following the signings of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo.
Sesko will be an integral part of Ruben Amorim's attacking trio, alongside Cunha and Mbeumo, tasked with helping the Red Devils improve their goalscoring record after only scoring 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last season.
Sesko was born and raised in Slovenia, but started his professional career with RB Salzburg in Austria. Salzburg gave Sesko his debut in the Austrian Championship in January 2021.
After an impressive two-and-a-half years, in which he scored 29 goals in 79 appearances, Sesko moved to RB Leipzig, where he won three trophies with Leipzig and scored six goals in 28 Champions League appearances.
At 1.93m tall, Sesko is strong in the air, but he also has pace and a sharp finish. He is not a complete player but has shown great potential and coach Amorim is keen to turn him into the striker he wants him to be.
