On the afternoon of May 8, the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni were solemnly carried from Thanh Tam Pagoda (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) to the top of Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh), within the framework of the United Nations Vesak Festival - Vesak 2025. Thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people were present early at the foot of the Buddha statue of Tay Bo Da Son to worship the world Buddhist treasure.
At around 4 p.m., when the ceremony had just finished, a strange phenomenon suddenly appeared: colorful clouds spread behind the tallest Buddha statue in Asia, surprising and touching the witnesses. Many Buddhists believed that this was a “good omen” in the important spiritual event.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa (58 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “ I have been to Ba Den Mountain many times but have never seen such a strange phenomenon. When I saw the light shining behind the Buddha statue, I was both moved and clasped my hands in prayer. It felt very sacred.”
About 10 minutes later, a second strip of iridescent clouds appeared right next to the first cloud, creating a rare “double cloud”. Many international tourists and Buddhists immediately used their phones to record this impressive moment. On social media, the image of the pair of iridescent clouds spread at a dizzying speed, accompanied by many comments expressing emotion and admiration.
Mr. Nguyen Van Loi (66 years old, from Ben Tre ) said: “I followed a group of Buddhists here to worship Buddha. When they saw the pair of five-colored clouds appear behind the Buddha statue, the whole group fell silent. Without anyone telling them, everyone clasped their hands and recited Buddha’s name.”
This phenomenon is of particular note because the five-colored clouds - which are very rare in the Tay Ninh area - appeared at the exact time when the Buddha's relics were being brought and enshrined, preparing for people to worship at the Buddhist Exhibition Center on top of Ba Den Mountain. This is also the venue for many solemn ceremonies within the framework of Vesak 2025.
Nun Thich Nu Dieu Tam, who participated in the procession of relics from Ho Chi Minh City to Tay Ninh, shared: “ Witnessing the five-colored clouds appearing when the procession arrived, I felt the Buddha’s compassion and mercy. To me, this is not only a natural phenomenon, but also a sign that evokes deep faith in the hearts of Buddhists.”
Previously, on the afternoon of May 5, at Thanh Tam Pagoda - where the Buddha's relics were kept before being brought to Ba Den Mountain - a five-colored cloud also appeared behind the Buddha statue, causing many witnesses to believe that this was a "continued good omen".
The Buddha's relics - which have been designated as a national treasure by the Indian Government - will be enshrined at the Buddhist Exhibition Center on top of Ba Den Mountain from May 8 to May 13 for delegates and Buddhists to pay homage. This is considered one of the most sacred spiritual highlights of the 2025 Vesak Festival in Vietnam.
