Carpenter Bui Trong Quan (Quoc Oai district, Hanoi) has a strong passion for football. Following every step of the Vietnamese team at the ASEAN Cup 2024, Mr. Quan was impressed with naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son.

After the first leg of the final match between Vietnam and Thailand ended, Mr. Quan joined the crowd of fans waiting to meet player Xuan Son. At around 11pm on January 2, after the press conference ended, he fulfilled his wish to meet his idol up close and personally presented the male player with a woodcut.

"Until now, I am still excited and thrilled to see Xuan Son score two goals, winning for Vietnam in the first leg of the final against Thailand.

Although I couldn't personally give this gift to Xuan Son and take a souvenir photo, the image of him happily taking a photo with the painting on the car made me very happy and excited," Mr. Quan shared.

During the 2024 ASEAN Cup season, every match with Vietnam, the brothers in the factory were given the opportunity to watch football together, even though there were quite a lot of year-end orders.

Regarding the special painting, Mr. Quan said the idea came from the Brazilian player's celebration photo in the victory over the Singapore team. Impressed by Xuan Son's image both on and off the field, the brothers at the workshop discussed making a woodcut portrait simulating that moment of victory.

The painting was carved from a piece of red wood, taken a week to complete and completed right before the match between Vietnam and Thailand on January 2.

"The workshop staff are familiar with traditional dragon and phoenix carvings, but this is the first time I've made a wood-carved portrait.

The difficulty is how to bring out Xuan Son's spirit. We had to observe and research carefully before creating the shape. Especially for specific features such as the eyes and the corners of the mouth," Mr. Quan confided.

Through the painting, Mr. Quan hopes to convey his love for football through his own carpentry profession. This is also a way to pay tribute to Nguyen Xuan Son's contributions to Vietnamese football.

Sharing about the great interest from Vietnamese football fans, Xuan Son said: "I love that and am very happy to live in this culture.

I, and my family, feel at home. Vietnam has given me everything. I will do my best to help the Vietnamese team play better and win the championship."

Before the second leg of the final in Thailand on January 5, Mr. Quan hopes that Xuan Son and the players in the Vietnamese team will maintain their form and play well to bring the cup home for the country.
