Training more than 1,000 physical education teachers for 'active classrooms'

A project to change the teaching method of physical education, according to the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, has impacted more than 21,000 students.

The project "Developing physical education in primary schools in Vietnam" has been implemented since 2020 and is a collaboration between the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences , Nike Vietnam and Danson Solutions Joint Stock Company.

At the 5-year project summary, the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences said the project had conducted 13 training sessions for about 1,000 core teachers at the primary level across the country. After that, the core teachers had a role in spreading to schools.

The method of implementing "Active Class" in physical education has impacted over 21,000 teachers and about 7 million students nationwide.

At the core of the project is the 6C Strategy, a modern, student-centered training approach that aims to comprehensively develop learners' capabilities.

The six elements of the strategy include: Confidence, Contribution, Connection, Clear/Concise, Choice, and Celebration. These are the foundational elements of an active classroom, where students are not only motivated but also listened to, expressed, and respected.

Discussing the results of this project, Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Development of General Education Quality, said: "What impressed me most was the confidence, joy, and smiles of the students during class.

The positive changes of students from this subject have most clearly demonstrated the qualities and abilities of students according to the requirements of the new general education program".

Mr. Vinh shared that the above project is an important foundation for the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences to continue to perfect and develop a system of specialized documents, contributing to supporting teachers in designing and implementing physical education lessons effectively, in line with the current orientation of educational innovation.

Physical education classes not only help students improve their physical fitness and motor skills, but also play an important role in forming a healthy lifestyle, discipline and self-confidence for students.

In the context that the education sector is promoting the organization of two-session teaching/day and enhancing comprehensive education at all levels of education.

For many years, physical education has often been considered a "minor subject" in the general education curriculum. However, changes in awareness of the role of physical education will have positive changes in the quality of teaching.
