Despite just winning a historic treble with Man City, striker Erling Haaland is still behind Lionel Messi in the group of stars capable of winning the 2023 Ballon d'Or.
According to British bookmaker Paddy Power , Messi is the leading candidate to win the 2023 Ballon d'Or with odds of 8/15 (bet 15 win 8). Following are the Man City duo, Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, with odds of 11/8 and 11/1. Meanwhile, British newspaper Sportmail believes that the 2023 Ballon d'Or title is a race between Messi and Haaland.

At club level, Messi did not play very well with 21 goals and 20 assists in 41 matches in all competitions with PSG, before deciding not to renew his contract to move to the US to play for Inter Miami. From 2022, France Football magazine will change the criteria, when the Ballon d'Or award will be based on the achievements in the most recent season, not the calendar year. The award ceremony will take place on October 30 in Paris, France.
