At 11 PM on June 29th (Vietnam time), Messi will reunite with his former French team when Inter Miami clashes with PSG in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Messi's only unfulfilled dream.
Immediately after the Champions League final, rumors circulated on social media that Vitinha had mocked Messi. Although the Portuguese midfielder quickly denied this, the undeniable truth is that he and Messi had a conflict when they were teammates. Vitinha is Portuguese, and above all, a quintessential playmaker.
The friction between Vitinha and Messi is understandable, especially during the Argentine superstar's final years playing in Europe. When Messi was in his prime, Vitinha naturally didn't dare to demand much. But as Messi aged, Vitinha had reason to want more possession of the ball, to be the "main character" in the team's style of play. Furthermore, Messi was never truly himself at PSG.
"I didn't really enjoy football at PSG. I wasn't happy here. It was very difficult to adapt," Messi admitted to the hardships of his two years with the Parisian club. He never publicly criticized anyone at PSG, but affirmed that he was "unhappy." This is an understandable feeling for a star who has always been adored in his native Argentina as well as at Barca – where he grew up and spent 20 years.
But at PSG, just two poor performances were enough for Messi to face harsh criticism. After Argentina defeated France in the 2022 World Cup final, the French even actively directed their attacks at Messi. This made his final days at the Parc des Princes a nightmare.

What hope is there for Messi?
Unfortunately for Messi, he reunited with PSG under completely unsuitable circumstances. Despite reaching the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16, Inter Miami showed almost no positive aspects in terms of their playing style. Their three rare bright spots were simply Messi's class, goalkeeper Ustari's spectacular save in the draw against Al Ahly, and Luis Suarez's brilliant performance against Palmeiras.
Inter Miami is far too weak compared to PSG – currently the strongest team in the world . If they had met in the group stage, Inter Miami would have had a better chance because the French team is not yet familiar with the weather and pitch conditions in the US. But Luis Enrique's team has already played three matches to acclimatize, and now they are aiming for a crushing victory over the home team.
Of course, on a day when the three aforementioned bright spots of Inter Miami – including Messi, Suarez, and Ustari's goalkeeping abilities – converge, hope still exists for the American team. Sportsmole's computer data estimates Inter Miami's chances of winning the match in 90 minutes at 28.5%. While not exceptionally high, PSG's corresponding figure is only 48%. Overall, experts still believe Inter Miami has the ability to hold out through the 90 minutes of regular time.
At 38, Messi's career has been incredibly fulfilling. He has won everything possible at both club and international level. But PSG remains a painful memory for the world's number one superstar. Messi needs a victory, or at least a brilliant performance, to heal the emotional wounds of his two years living in France.
Bayern Munich must not be complacent.
Following the PSG - Inter Miami match is the Flamengo - Bayern Munich game (3 AM on June 30th). Despite being considered superior in terms of strength, this will certainly not be an easy match for Bayern Munich.
In the group stage, Flamengo convincingly defeated Chelsea. There's no reason for the Brazilian players to fear Bayern Munich – a team that has been inconsistent in cup competitions for many years.
