Northern region experiences thunderstorms before widespread heat wave

VnExpressVnExpress21/04/2024

Thunderstorms and hail may occur in many places in the North in the next three days, after which the temperature will gradually increase and heat will cover the whole region.

Hanoi , Son La, and Hoa Binh had showers and thunderstorms with hail last night. The reason was that the southern edge of the low pressure trough with an axis of 23-25 degrees north latitude connecting to the low pressure area in the west was compressed by a cool air mass moving down from mainland China.

On the morning of April 21, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the low pressure trough with an axis of 23-25 degrees north latitude will continue to be pushed down by cool air mass in the next 2-3 days. Therefore, the northern provinces will continue to experience thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail in the afternoon and evening.

From April 25, the low pressure area in the west is likely to develop again, while the cool air mass in the north will no longer exist. The temperature in the North will gradually increase and there is a possibility of widespread heat waves.

The American website Accuweather predicts that the highest temperature in Hanoi from now until Wednesday will be 31 degrees Celsius, and 25 degrees at night. From Thursday, the temperature will gradually increase to 36-38 degrees Celsius, and 27 degrees at night. At high points over 1,500 meters above sea level such as Sa Pa ( Lao Cai ), the temperature next week will be between 17-27 degrees Celsius.

The Central region has been suffering from widespread heat since April 19. The meteorological agency forecasts that in the next three days, the heat wave will gradually narrow due to the weakening of the low pressure area in the west. The heat wave is concentrated in the area from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh to Phu Yen with the highest temperature during the day commonly ranging from 35-38 degrees.

From April 25, when the low pressure area developed again, the heat wave expanded to provinces from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An.

The South and Central Highlands will continue to experience widespread heat next week. The South will experience intense heat with temperatures ranging from 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some places reaching over 38 degrees Celsius. Temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius are concentrated in the Southeast region.

The Central Highlands has a common temperature of 34-37 degrees, some places above 37 degrees. However, in the afternoon and evening, this area is likely to have localized thunderstorms with tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
