DTO - In the period of 2020 - 2023, the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a Plan on implementing the Project to replicate the model of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs until 2025 (abbreviated as the Club) in the spirit of Decision No. 1336 dated August 31, 2020 of the Prime Minister in the area, bringing practical results.

Mr. Le Hoang Duc - Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, said: “Currently, the province has 58 clubs with nearly 3,600 members, of which more than 1,800 are elderly (accounting for about 66.5%). Most of the clubs operate quite well, ensuring the implementation of all 8 areas. In particular, the clubs organize activities on a regular basis, the rate of participating members ensures the requirements; the activities adhere to the content according to the instructions, gradually meeting the needs of improving the material and spiritual life of the elderly in the Red Lotus area”.

Since its establishment, many clubs have proactively proposed health care content for members through coordination with commune, ward and town health stations to organize health check-ups, communicate about common diseases, mobilize participation in health insurance, health care activities, and exercise to improve health at home for club members. In particular, the Club's Board of Directors has coordinated with the grassroots health volunteer group to regularly visit and take care of the health of the elderly at home. As a result, the whole province has organized more than 570 health check-ups and care for thousands of elderly, sick and lonely people at home.

Immediately after its establishment, the Board of Directors of the Clubs promoted the mobilization of members to contribute funds (each person contributed at least 500,000 VND, maximum 2 million VND), and at the same time requested policies to call for resources from businesses and benefactors to support the Club. With the funds, the Board of Directors of the Clubs organized to consider loans for members in need with agreed interest rates (but not exceeding the bank interest rate at that time). As a result, the Clubs in the province mobilized a total amount of nearly 2 billion VND, and considered loans for nearly 420 members in difficult circumstances to effectively invest in household economic development. Of the interest earned from the loans, 50% was used by the Board of Directors for operating expenses, the rest was added to the Club's fund. In addition, the Clubs also cooperated with local socio -political organizations to advise and create conditions for participating in vocational training and cooperative groups to create stable jobs and increase income for Club members.

After more than 6 years of establishment, up to now, the Club of Hamlet 3 and Hamlet 6 (Ward 6, Cao Lanh City) has 50 members, of which the Executive Board consists of 5 people. The activities of the Club are suitable for the actual conditions in the locality. Club members always care, share, and support the material and spiritual life of the elderly. Specifically: The Club mobilized Dong Thap Petroleum Company to sponsor 30 million VND to build a charity house; considered lending 5 times to members with a total amount of more than 30 million VND to buy and sell small items, increase income, and improve the lives of elderly members. In addition, the Club also established a Health Care Team, maintained training to serve in regular activities, and participated in performances in and outside the locality.

The Board of Directors of the Clubs in the province proactively coordinated with the sector and socio-political organizations at the grassroots level to propagate nearly 360 sessions on policies and regimes related to the elderly; coordinated to review and compile a list of beneficiaries, as well as monitor the payment of monthly social allowances to the elderly to ensure compliance with State regulations, avoiding omissions or incorrect beneficiaries. With the spirit of "Mutual love", "Village love", the Clubs mobilized many resources, regularly organized support, visits, and gifts to encourage members who were sick or had difficulties in life. In the period of 2020 - 2023, the Clubs supported members and the elderly in difficult circumstances with a total amount of up to hundreds of millions of VND; built 8 new charity houses equivalent to 360 million VND; donated 8 wheelchairs to the elderly with disabilities with a total amount of 22 million VND...

From now until 2025, the Elderly Association at all levels will continue to coordinate with departments, branches, sectors, and socio-political organizations at the same level to regularly implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws related to the elderly, especially the criteria for building new rural areas, restructuring the agricultural sector; participating in environmental protection; preventing and combating crimes and social evils... to members and the elderly. At the same time, guide, inspect, and urge the District Elderly Association Representative Board to continue to pay attention to consolidating, improving, improving the quality and efficiency of the activities of existing clubs, and mobilizing the establishment of new clubs in localities in the province.
