Digital transformation is an inevitable trend, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, a top priority for rapid and sustainable development; it is the cause of the entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people, contributing to realizing the aspiration of building a strong and prosperous country... In line with that general trend, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Ben Tre province has actively responded to the digital transformation process in the library sector, based on available resources and equipment. The model "Socializing communication to develop reading culture with the online application Canva pro" was introduced at the festival and was highly appreciated by the Organizing Committee, chosen to be performed at the closing ceremony because of its effectiveness in developing reading culture.
Canva is known as an online design software with simple and quick operations without having to know many design skills like specialized software such as Photoshop, Corel, etc. Canva users can design presentations, posters, invitations, logos, infographics, flyers, charts, images, videos ... by choosing one of the available templates or creating a custom size, unleashing creativity. In particular, Canva also provides AI tools to easily create audiobook products.
To popularize Canva software to those who are directly working in libraries and the community, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library has organized many training courses. Specifically, the training course "Using application software in designing communication products on reading culture in 2024" was organized for officials of the Center for Culture - Sports and Broadcasting of districts and cities in the province; officials in charge of libraries at agencies and schools; representatives of some private libraries; and close readers and collaborators of the library.
The Canva software application course for children is part of the summer activities; thereby creating conditions to help children have a useful playground during the summer. At the same time, it helps equip them with more skills in accessing and applying information technology to serve their studies.
Within the framework of activities responding to Lifelong Learning Week, celebrating the International Day of Older Persons on October 1 and responding to the Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly in 2024, National Digital Transformation Day on October 10, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library organized reader training activities, introduced services at the Library and guided the elderly to use and exploit the applications of Canva Pro design software.
In addition, the organization also cooperated with the Women's Union of Ben Tre City and Ba Tri District to train officials and members to apply and effectively exploit Canva software in professional work and research and study. In activities to develop a reading culture in schools, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library introduced Canva software to students. After that, students participated in the book introduction contest The Book That Made Me by designing the cover and introduction content through the Canva application.
Recognizing the effectiveness of the model, in 2024, the Steering Committee of the Movement for the Whole People to Unite to Build a Cultural Life in Ben Tre Province organized a training course on cultural communication work; Application of software in designing and producing communication videos in 2024. The training course attracted 567 registered participants, including civil servants and public employees of 30 provincial departments, branches, unions, and schools, 62 branches, unions, and schools in districts, cities, and 157 communes, wards, and towns in the whole province (the number of trainees participating in the training was 67 more than the Plan).
The main training content is an overview of Canva software (Introduction to Canva application, how to create an account, log in, security, account management, basic customizations (notifications, members, interface...); Applications in Canva (Magic studio, design materials, fonts, logo creation and QR code...); Practice making Video products by topic groups; presentation, editing, discussion.
The results of the practice (group practice) included 36 group video products and 153 individual video clips on many topics that were made and sent to the reporter for guidance and comments on completion. The class organizers also maintained a video management group, and students regularly interacted and exchanged experiences in the process of applying the knowledge learned to perform tasks in the locality.
The Provincial Steering Committee organized a Video Clip Creation Contest to implement Resolution No. 05/NQ-TU dated January 29, 2021 of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee on Building Ben Tre people with comprehensive development; happy and progressive families and received 246 entries from collectives and individuals of departments, branches, schools of the province, districts, cities, communes, wards and towns throughout the province.
The application of Canva software in activities has contributed to attracting readers to the library, especially exploiting and applying technological devices in book promotion and introduction, contributing to raising personal awareness and spreading reading culture in the community. However, the free version of Canva will not have many functions compared to the Pro version.
Therefore, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Ben Tre province has mobilized CEUS Social Enterprise to provide free Canva pro versions to everyone in need. On average , each Canva pro version costs 1.3 million VND, and the total funding for free software has been 3 billion VND. The digital age has posed many challenges as well as opportunities for the library sector. Therefore, it is necessary to innovate and apply technology to reach readers.
In addition, the Library also introduced the team, introduced the book "From the Dong Khoi Movement to the Great Victory of Spring 1975" by the group of authors Vu Nhu Khoi, Nguyen Van Truong, Le Thi Hong published by the People's Army Publishing House and the talent competition, singing and dancing medley: Ben Tre's Standing Posture - Continuing the story of peace.
