A particularly important objective in the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang into the (new) city of Da Nang is to expand the development space. First and foremost, the (new) Da Nang can expand its urban space to the outskirts, especially the bordering areas of Quang Nam province, which is essential to better exploit the potential and strengths and solve the problem of pressure on the inner city of Da Nang.
Quang Nam possesses abundant land resources for developing urban areas, commercial centers, industrial real estate, and creating high-class entertainment, tourism , and service zones in the eastern region, stretching from Dien Ban to Nui Thanh.
Adjacent to Da Nang, several communes and towns in Dai Loc district, and communes and wards in Dien Ban town still have significant potential for urban development. As part of the new Da Nang city, expanding the urban space needs to extend to the suburbs to alleviate the already high building density in the inner city. This also provides a temporary lull for authorities to implement a systematic and scientific drainage system plan, addressing the problem of flooding whenever heavy and prolonged rainfall occurs.

Expanding urban areas to the suburbs also helps to disperse traffic flows towards the city center, reducing traffic congestion. Expanding urban space and attracting investment in industry, commerce, services, tourism, education, and healthcare will create new residential areas, anticipating and capitalizing on population growth.
Wherever people settle, development will be stimulated; schools and other amenities will spring up. Water security, which serves the essential needs of life, daily activities, and production, will be better addressed.
Opening up more development space for the (new) Da Nang is a topic that has been frequently discussed in the post-merger development plans of the two localities, in which many have recognized the strengths of each region.
Some argue that if one chooses Da Nang as their place of residence, why live in the suburbs? This sentiment is understandable, as Da Nang is currently considered a "livable city" with numerous infrastructure and service amenities. However, in the long run, inner-city residents will face the pressures of a "megacity."
Meanwhile, a major advantage is the convenient transportation links between Quang Nam and Da Nang currently available via river, sea, road, and rail. In the near future, the North-South high-speed railway project passing through Da Nang (new) and the urban railway connecting Da Nang and Quang Nam (existing) will significantly shorten travel time.
The Vo Chi Cong coastal road is a major transportation artery connecting Da Nang and Quang Ngai. River transport has also undergone significant changes with the dredging project of the Co Co River; similarly, the Truong Giang River dredging project (part of the Quang Nam Province Integrated Adaptation Development Project) passing through Duy Xuyen, Thang Binh, Tam Ky, and Nui Thanh... upon completion, will further facilitate travel for suburban residents to the city center.
