Competitive prices, deep discounts

Right from the beginning of April, when the weather in the North just started to change to summer, the cooling equipment market has entered the peak shopping season. The heat has not yet reached its peak, but the heat at electronics supermarkets in Hanoi has increased sharply thanks to a series of promotional programs and price reductions to stimulate demand.

According to a survey by reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper at major distribution systems in Hanoi, the prices of many cooling devices such as pedestal fans, air conditioners, wall-mounted air conditioners, etc. have been adjusted down by 20 - 40%, depending on the product line.

Specifically, air-conditioner fans cost between VND2.5 and VND3.5 million, down nearly VND1 million compared to July last year. Pedestal fans cost between VND500,000 and VND2 million, down 35% compared to mid-summer last year. Industrial floor fans, which are often used in large spaces, cost only about VND600,000, down 22% compared to the peak of the heat last year.

Cooling products are very attractive to customers.

In particular, the 1-way inverter air conditioner lines are also priced from only 7 million VND, with many incentives such as gift vouchers from 300,000 - 500,000 VND, free installation and materials, or 0% interest installment payments. This is considered a very competitive price compared to the same period in 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Minh - owner of Minh Duc private electronics store (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) commented: " The pressure from declining purchasing power in the context of economic difficulties has forced retailers to adjust prices early. This year, we have recorded a trend of people tending to 'hunt' for discounted goods very quickly. It is expected that purchasing power will continue to increase strongly at the end of May ."

In addition to direct discounts, supermarkets also offer many additional promotional packages such as giving away combos of supplies, maintenance vouchers, free delivery within 2 hours or giving away small household appliances (kettles, blenders, rice cookers) for bills from 5 million VND or more.

One notable point is that the demand for energy-saving products is increasing. Air conditioner models using inverter technology and R32 gas, which help reduce electricity costs and are more environmentally friendly, have become the top choice, despite the fact that the price may be 15-20% higher than conventional products.

Ms. Nguyen Que Anh (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) shared: “My family is considering buying more steam fans or air conditioners. However, I prioritize energy-saving products because electricity prices may increase in the near future. An inverter air conditioner may cost 1-2 million more but will save costs in the long run .”

Air conditioners are also discounted to stimulate consumer demand.

Similarly, steam fans and remote-controlled ceiling fans are also chosen by consumers thanks to their reasonable prices and ability to cool open spaces. Many young families, food service businesses, coffee shops... have taken advantage of the low prices to invest early in cooling equipment for the peak season.

Mr. Vu Hoang Nam, owner of a coffee shop in Hoang Mai district, Hanoi said: " I have added 2 remote-controlled ceiling fans and 1 high-capacity floor fan. The total cost is just over 5 million VND, thanks to buying during the promotion period, I saved nearly 2 million VND compared to last year" .

Bustling "online market"

Not only traditional retail systems, the market for purchasing cooling equipment via e-commerce channels has also witnessed sudden growth since the beginning of April.

The strength of the online market lies in its competitive prices thanks to cutting down on space costs, along with a series of time-based discount programs, promotional codes, cumulative vouchers and interest-free online installment payments.

Specifically, a Sunhouse SHD7723 air conditioner fan is being sold on Shopee for only 2.49 million VND, with a 300,000 VND discount coupon for the first order. Arctic Air mini air conditioner (small, portable personal line) costs from 490,000 VND, popular with office workers.

In addition, many sellers also apply the same-day delivery policy for orders within Hanoi city, helping customers quickly have products to use in the rapidly increasing hot weather.

Ms. Le Thao (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) said: “ I ordered a mini rechargeable fan for my child to study online at noon. Ordered in the morning, received the goods in the afternoon, free shipping and received an additional 10% discount code. Very convenient and fast .”

In addition to e-commerce platforms, social networks have also become a place for small and medium-sized electronics stores and individuals to livestream cooling products.

During live broadcasts, sellers demonstrate features, compare prices, give gifts directly on livestream..., creating an instant shopping effect and increasing the number of orders many times over. Product lines priced from 300,000 to 3 million VND are consumed fastest through this form.

Mr. Hoang Van Phuc, owner of a stall selling electrical appliances on the Shopee e-commerce platform, shared: " Each livestream selling mini fans and standing fans, I close 50-100 orders. Customers like it because they see real products, have direct interaction and the price is cheaper than going to the store."

Many customers also feel more comfortable shopping online because they don’t need to travel, can compare multiple models at once, and get reviews from previous buyers. These factors contribute to changing consumer habits, especially among younger customers.

The cooling equipment market is entering its busiest time of the year. As consumers tighten their spending, retailers must compete not only on price, but also on after-sales policies, delivery services and omnichannel shopping experiences.
