MU accepts losing Sancho for free

Once expected to be a world-class striker when he joined MU from Dortmund for £73 million in 2021, Jadon Sancho's future at Old Trafford is now almost over.

According to talkSPORT , MU's board of directors decided to let Sancho leave for free in the summer of 2026, accepting a huge loss of money spent, instead of continuing to pay a salary of 200,000 pounds/week to a player who is no longer in coach Ruben Amorim's plans.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Aston Villa, but his form continues to disappoint. After six appearances, the former Dortmund star has yet to score or assist, and has never even started in the Premier League.

In the 1-0 win over Man City on October 26, Sancho was taken off early after coming on as a substitute. He expressed his dissatisfaction, but coach Unai Emery insisted it was just a physical issue.

Sancho was previously transferred to Chelsea in the 2024/25 season, scoring 5 goals and providing 10 assists in 41 games, helping the London club win the Europa Conference League. However, the achievement was not enough for Chelsea to activate the buyout clause, and they even paid £5 million to cancel the mandatory £25 million purchase contract with MU.

Returning to Old Trafford this summer, Sancho was immediately put on the list of players who were left out of the plans along with Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and Malacia, and he eventually joined Aston Villa on transfer deadline day – a gamble that has so far not paid off.

If he cannot break through in the rest of the season, Sancho will officially say goodbye to MU after 5 turbulent years, leaving behind one of the most expensive and disappointing deals in the history of the "Red Devils".
