What's going on with Dembele?

Striker Ousmane Dembele caused concern when he had to leave the field early in PSG's 1-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage in the early morning of November 5.

The French star played for just over 20 minutes before being taken off by coach Luis Enrique, making way for Lee Kang-in in the 25th minute. The incident happened right after Dembele had a goal ruled out for offside, causing many to worry that he had a recurrence of the hamstring injury that had kept him out of action for nearly 2 months.

According to French media, Dembele showed signs of slight pain in the back of his right thigh when leaving the field, but PSG has not officially confirmed his condition. Previously, coach Luis Enrique affirmed in a press conference that he "never takes risks with players who are not ready" and Dembele was "completely healthy, fully trained for the past 2 weeks".

However, after the 1-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1 on November 1, television cameras captured Dembele holding his right leg and telling his teammates: "My hamstring hurts a lot." This further raised suspicions that the 27-year-old star may not have fully recovered.

Injuries seem to be affecting Dembele's form, as he has failed to score in PSG's last four matches. Since the start of the season, the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner has only scored three goals in eight matches in all competitions, a modest number compared to his explosive 2024/25 season.

The 1-2 defeat to Bayern Munich caused PSG to fall to 3rd place in the Champions League group.
