Speaking on CBNC , Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made a surprising comment, suggesting that the US may loosen restrictions and allow Nvidia's high-end chips to be sold to Chinese companies in the near future.

“There may be a case in the future. I don’t know if it’s 12 or 24 months from now. With the incredible innovation that’s happening at Nvidia, Blackwell chips could fall to the second, third, or fourth tier in their stack in terms of efficiency. At that point, they could be available,” Bessent said.

Previously, in an interview with CBS on November 2, US President Donald Trump emphasized that "no country other than the US will be allowed to have Nvidia's most advanced Blackwell chips," according to Reuters .

Commenting to reporters on Air Force One, he also affirmed: "We did not give the chip (Blackwell - PV ) to anyone else."

This is a sign that the US may further tighten controls on AI chip exports, aiming to prevent China and many other countries from accessing leading semiconductor technology.

Currently, according to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the US chipmaker has completely lost its position in the Chinese market from 95% market share to 0%, after the US imposed export restrictions.

Being excluded from the world's second-largest AI market not only costs Nvidia billions of dollars in revenue, but also puts it at a strategic disadvantage to domestic rivals like Huawei, according to the Times of India .

Accordingly, Mr. Huang revealed that Nvidia is now completely banned from selling high-performance AI chip lines such as A100, H100 and H200 to Chinese customers since the restrictions take effect in 2022.
