"Recently, there has been a situation where some people have impersonated admissions officers of the department and schools to contact parents to collect personal information; giving false information about primary school admissions" - an urgent notice from the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training said.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training affirmed: "The Department, schools, and admissions teams will not proactively call parents directly to discuss admissions for any reason.
All official enrollment information will be publicly announced on the official website at https://tuyensinhdaucap.hcm.edu.vn and the websites of the schools, or sent in official written notice through the school.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training recommends that parents be especially vigilant when someone calls asking for personal information of students or parents, especially bank account information, OTP codes or unofficial fees.
For any questions regarding admissions, parents should contact the school and homeroom teacher directly.
Parents should only proactively contact the admissions support phone numbers when they need assistance. Admissions support staff will not proactively call parents."
It is known that recently, parents of students in Ho Chi Minh City have continuously received scam calls.
Specifically, on May 6, some parents of 12th grade students at Hiep Binh High School received calls from strangers claiming to be school staff.
The scammer said that the information of the students registering for the high school graduation exam was incorrect, and parents needed to update it immediately to supplement their records.
The scammer then asked the parents to contact a phone number that he introduced as the ward police to get support in adjusting and updating information.
Most parents responded that they would go directly to the police station to work. One parent was so worried about her child that she followed the above request. When the parent clicked on the link sent by the scammer, they were asked to scan their face again.
According to initial feedback, immediately after the parent performed the facial scan, all the money in the parent's account was deducted.
Many tricks to cheat parents
In April 2025, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City also received calls from strangers, impersonating school principals. According to initial reports, the scammer asked parents to confirm their children's level 2 identification code to serve the primary school admission process. When parents clicked on the link provided by the scammer, their bank accounts were immediately debited.
Previously, there were many other scams against parents such as: asking for information to be exempted from tuition fees, asking to transfer money to serve the emergency needs of students...
