From early morning, the road leading to Ta Mo, Hua Bo, Dong Luong villages… is busier than ever. People cut, carry, select, pack, all are urgent, rushing to catch the waiting trucks of traders, the atmosphere is bustling throughout the area.
To have sweet fruit seasons like today, the people of Dong Luong village, Muong Bu commune, always mention Mr. Ca Van Hac, the pioneer who brought lychee trees to plant in the village. Taking us to visit the 1-hectare garden with more than 150 lychee trees that have been harvested for the past 12 years, Mr. Hac shared: In 2001, when I was still working at Muong La Forestry, I realized that lychee trees were suitable for the climate and soil here, so I boldly planted 15 trees. After a period of care, the trees grew well, the fruit was sweet, and the yield was stable. Realizing that this was a suitable crop, I increasingly expanded the planting area. Currently, each large tree yields over 100 kg of fruit, and each small tree from 30 - 40 kg. This season, my family harvested about 6 tons. Thanks to proper care, the lychee has large, juicy fruit, small seeds, and at the beginning of the season, it was sold for 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg.
Since 2016, Mr. Hac has started to propagate, provide seedlings and provide technical guidance to households in the village. Thanks to that, many families in Dong Luong village have boldly converted ineffective sloping land to grow lychee. Up to now, the village has over 8 hectares of lychee. Mr. Lo Van Thang shared: Previously, my family's land was mainly used to grow corn and cassava. In 2016, with Mr. Hac selling seeds and providing technical guidance on planting and care, my family decided to switch to growing 2 hectares of lychee. Currently, the family hires 8 more local workers to harvest lychee. Since the beginning of the season, about 8 tons of lychee have been harvested, earning more than 200 million VND. In addition to selling to traders, the family also takes advantage of social networks such as Facebook and Zalo to promote and attract visitors to visit and experience picking lychee in the garden.
Not only in Dong Luong village, lychee trees have spread to many other villages in the commune, bringing about clear economic efficiency. Mr. Quang Van Huoi, Party cell secretary and head of Ta Mo village, said: The village has about 10 hectares of lychee, and people's lives are now better than before. Thanks to the commune's guidance, technical training and safe production, the quality of lychee has been improved. This year, there was a good harvest and good prices, people have good incomes, and their lives are improving day by day.
Although the weather at the beginning of the year was somewhat dry, thanks to the proactive application of science and technology, ensuring irrigation water sources and proper care, this year's lychee crop still had a high yield. Everyone was excited because the lychee not only had a good harvest, but also had beautiful designs and guaranteed quality.
Muong Bu commune currently has more than 30 hectares of lychee, with an estimated output of over 250 tons. To ensure stable output, the commune has proactively connected with traders and cooperatives to purchase directly from the garden. Mr. Lo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: Lychee trees are bringing high economic efficiency, helping people increase their income and contributing to changing the face of the countryside. The commune coordinates with specialized agencies to organize technical training from planting, care, pruning to pest control. Mobilize people to produce in a safe direction, encourage people to cooperate in the production and consumption of lychee.
Lychee trees are increasingly affirming their economic efficiency and are the right direction in choosing crops in Muong Bu, contributing to diversifying the local agricultural landscape, helping people to become rich legitimately, building a rich and prosperous homeland and village.
