TPO – The “Heaven’s Gate” Hoanh Son Quan is located on the top of Deo Ngang Pass, near the border between Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces. This historical site was built in 1833, during the reign of King Minh Mang, to control vehicles and people passing through the pass.

According to history books, the Hoanh Son Quan "heavenly gate" made of bricks and stones was built in 1833, during the reign of King Minh Mang, to control the passage through the pass.

The "heavenly gate" architecture of Hoanh Son Quan has a 4 m high door, 30 m long walls on both sides, located on the mountainside of Ha Tinh province, built of bricks and plaster that are still quite intact.

Over the past hundred years, Hoanh Son Quan has retained its ancient architecture with many traces and words carved into the walls. The architecture here has been covered with moss.

Ngang Pass is also associated with the legend of the holy mother Lieu Hanh. Many survey teams of the mountain top area determined that there are still many ancient ramparts, sometimes located in Quang Binh territory, sometimes crossing Ha Tinh province. In 2005, the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province decided to classify Hoanh Son Quan as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic, but Quang Binh province also considered this relic to be the northern gateway of the province, so in 2002, this province also classified it as a provincial-level relic.

The leader of the People's Committee of Ky Nam commune said that in order to protect and promote the cultural values of the relic, Ha Tinh authorities have renovated, planted trees and installed electric lighting and security cameras along the path leading to the relic site.

In Quang Binh, in October 2024, after discovering a stone path connecting the Lieu Hanh Holy Mother Temple to the "Heaven's Gate" (Hoanh Son Quan) in Quang Dong commune (Quang Trach district), the province directed the clearing and gradual restoration of the "North-South" road.

The route has some sections that are still intact with stone steps and stone tombs, which were the paths used by ancient people to cross Deo Ngang on the "North-South" journey.
