Baleba gradually regained confidence after a difficult start. |
Baleba is MU's top transfer target in the summer of 2025. However, according to The Athletic , the Old Trafford team withdrew when Brighton kept the price at no less than 115 million pounds, the same amount they received from Chelsea for the Moises Caicedo deal in 2023.
After the failed deal, Baleba had a slow start to the 2025/26 season. He did not complete 90 minutes in any match. However, Baleba left his mark in Brighton's 2-1 win over Newcastle on October 18. He helped his home team go undefeated in 5 consecutive matches before meeting MU.
Coach Hurzeler revealed the key to helping Baleba regain his form is asking the player to take responsibility for his own performance, instead of being influenced by interest from big teams.
In an interview with Sky Sports , he said: "I see a Carlos who knows how to improve. His actions and attitude are very good. Carlos will not improve if he only receives praise and applause. He will improve if he has a safe environment but with honest feedback, helping him understand what needs to improve."
Before the match, MU coach Ruben Amorim also highly appreciated his opponent: "Brighton is always an interesting team to watch. They are very strong in building play, transitions, and set pieces. They are a well-rounded team, and we need to be fully focused."
MU welcomed Brighton on the evening of October 25 in high spirits after a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, thereby aiming for a streak of 3 consecutive wins in the Premier League.
