The impressive pineapple farming model of a farmer in his 30s from Ha Tinh province.
(Baohatinh.vn) - After more than a year of implementation, the pineapple farming model of Mr. Tran Van Cuong (born in 1985, Ky Hoa commune, Ha Tinh province) has yielded positive results, promising high economic efficiency.
Báo Hà Tĩnh•13/09/2025
In April 2024, Tran Van Cuong's family joined a pineapple farming model in partnership with Dong Giao Export Food Joint Stock Company ( Ninh Binh ). They leased 5 hectares of hilly land in Tan Son village, Ky Hoa commune, to improve and sign a contract to grow Queen pineapples for commercial purposes. According to the partnership contract, Dong Giao Export Food Joint Stock Company will directly supply seedlings, provide technical support, and purchase all the produce from the growers. In addition, starting in March 2025, Mr. Cuong will also collaborate with the North Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute to cultivate 3 hectares of MD2 pineapple using Israeli technology.
For each hectare of pineapple, Mr. Cuong invests nearly 120 million VND in soil improvement, fertilizers, etc. Thanks to proper care, his 8 hectares of pineapples are developing very well, with an expected maximum yield of over 50 tons/ha and an income of nearly 300 million VND/ha.
Mr. Tran Van Cuong shared: "Thanks to good seed sources, suitable fertilizers, favorable weather, and regular monitoring and technical support from our partner unit, after more than a year since planting, the pineapple plants are growing and developing well. Initially, I see that the pineapple plants have adapted to the climate and soil conditions here. On the other hand, thanks to the production linkage, the regular support of the government and businesses, and especially the guaranteed purchase of the product, I feel quite secure..." In the photo: Mr. Cuong (far left) discusses his pineapple farming model with local leaders.
Mr. Tran Van Cuong's 8 hectares of pineapples are planted with two varieties: Queen and MD2. After a period of cultivation, the soil and climate of Ky Hoa have proven suitable for pineapple cultivation. The pineapples produce uniform, large fruits that, when ripe, have a rich, sweet flavor and meet export standards.
It is understood that the pineapple cultivation model was implemented as a result of the previous leadership's (former Ky Anh district) efforts to find an economic development direction that suited the potential and advantages, especially given the large area of hills and forests in the district that were either left fallow or currently being used to grow crops with low economic efficiency.
Based on Mr. Tran Van Cuong's model, it is hoped that, with close links to businesses, pineapple cultivation will bring positive signs in economic development, contributing to increasing income for people in the hilly areas of Ha Tinh province.
What we appreciate about Mr. Tran Van Cuong's model is not only its economic efficiency but also the pioneering spirit and daring initiative of a young man from the countryside. His bold decision to convert inefficient crop land into large-scale pineapple cultivation, linked with purchasing businesses, affirms a new, sustainable approach, avoiding the long-standing problem of "bumper harvest, low prices" in agriculture.
Furthermore, this model aligns with the direction of developing green and circular agriculture that the Ky Hoa commune Party Committee has set forth during its term. From the experience of pineapple cultivation, farmers have clearly seen the benefits of production linked along the value chain.
