Kelly Hammett, director of the Rapid Space Capabilities Office, said last month that the systems, called Remote Module Terminals (RMTs), are designed to disrupt the “kill chain.” The primary target of these jammers is China’s expanding satellite surveillance network, especially Yaogan.
Yaogan satellites can track small objects like cars from space and provide persistent surveillance for the Indo-Pacific Command, according to a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington-based research group.
At the Spacepower Conference held last month in Florida, several senior US military figures stressed the growing importance of space in the region.
Brigadier General Anthony Mastalir, commander of the Indo-Pacific Space Force, acknowledged at the event that China's satellite network allows it to monitor US and allied forces and potentially exploit vulnerabilities.
