After making landfall near Tallahassee, the Florida capital, the storm moved north, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. More than 4.2 million customers were without power across 10 states, from Florida to Ohio, according to the website poweroutage.us.

Although it has weakened to a tropical depression, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that the storm still causes severe flooding and the risk of flash flooding in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In the affected areas, people faced great hardship. Houses were flooded, trees collapsed and many people had to leave their homes to find safe shelter. US Vice President Kamala Harris said the government had mobilized 1,500 personnel to support affected communities.
