According to CNN, on June 13, President Joe Biden is expected to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy and sign a new security agreement with Ukraine.
The White House said the two leaders would hold a joint press conference after the talks. According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the signing of the new security agreement with Ukraine is intended to clarify the US commitment to support Kiev.
Fifteen countries have signed separate security agreements with Ukraine, aimed at strengthening Kiev’s “defensive deterrence.” The US agreement will include a commitment to coordinate with Congress on future funding for Ukraine, but will not commit to the use of US forces.
On June 7, US President Joe Biden apologized to Mr. Zelensky for the delay in military aid to Ukraine and pledged $225 million in support. The two leaders met in Paris, a day after attending a ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in World War II.
