Thus, 2/3 of patients with meningococcal meningitis treated at Thong Nhat General Hospital were successfully treated and no sequelae were recorded.
According to Dr. Quyen, patient S. was admitted to the hospital in a very serious condition. Doctors treated the patient with antibiotics and vasopressors. After 5 days of treatment, the patient was out of shock and continued to receive antibiotics. By May 9, the patient was able to eat, walk, and talk on his own, and the necrotic rash was gradually fading.
As reported by Dong Nai Newspaper, patient TS is one of three cases of meningococcal encephalitis in Dong Nai province since the beginning of 2025. This disease is very dangerous and has a mortality rate of up to 50% if not treated promptly.
Dr. Thanh Quyen warns that meningococcal meningitis is transmitted through the respiratory tract like Covid-19 and can spread into a very dangerous epidemic. However, there is a vaccine to prevent the disease. Therefore, children and adults who have not been vaccinated should go to medical facilities to get advice from doctors on meningococcal vaccination.
