Handsome male student passed 2 prestigious doctoral scholarships, bought his own house at the age of 24

Le Anh Duc once considered Chinese as just a second choice, but it was this language that opened up an impressive journey for the male student: From an excellent student at Hanoi University, to winning two prestigious Chinese doctoral scholarships and becoming financially independent at the age of 24.

From wish 2 to a lasting "fate"

Born in 1997 in Viet Tri (Phu Tho), Le Anh Duc came to Chinese as a destiny. When applying to Hanoi University, Chinese was only the second choice, but in the end, this subject has accompanied Duc throughout his academic journey.

During his 4 years at university, Anh Duc was an outstanding student in the faculty, held the position of President of the Chinese Club (2017-2018), received a full scholarship for 5 terms, won the Hanoi regional championship and first prize in the global final round of the 17th "Chinese Bridge" contest (2018).

But this path is not all rosy. “Starting from zero, the hardest thing for me was having to learn a completely new language in a stressful and competitive environment: homework was intense, the learning speed was fast, and friends around me already had a solid foreign language foundation. To overcome this, I learned to stay relaxed and optimistic, turning moderate pressure into motivation instead of stress,” Anh Duc shared.

From the sessions of diligently writing each character, practicing pronunciation until staying up all night, Duc not only gradually found interest in Chinese but also trained himself to have a resilient spirit to overcome pressure, stressful exams and strict perfectionism with himself.

Graduating with honors with a GPA of 3.5/4.0, his excellent thesis was archived as an internal reference, Anh Duc continued his academic path with a scholarship for a Master's degree in Chinese Language Education International (CIS) at Beijing Normal University - the top 1 school in China in pedagogy and in the top 20-30 globally, according to the QS Subject Education & Training rankings in recent years.

After completing his master's program with a GPA of 3.6/4.0, Duc continued his doctoral studies, receiving a full scholarship from the Chinese Government and a PhD scholarship in New Sinology (one of the most prestigious scholarships with high remuneration) at two schools: Beijing Normal University and East China Normal University.

Sharing the secret to achieving impressive achievements, the young man from the land of the Ancestors said: “I follow the principle of comprehensive development: Study seriously but still pursue interests and passions. The secret to balance is to keep a clear mind, arrange time reasonably according to priorities and try my best in every opportunity. Effort, perfectionism and honesty with myself are the key factors that help me achieve the achievements today.”

Professor Chu Quoc Khoa, Head of the Department of International Chinese Language Education and Chinese Culture, East China Normal University (China) - Duc's supervisor, commented that this is a doctoral student with excellent academic ability, neat demeanor and research papers that demonstrate depth of thinking, promising open development prospects in the future.

Not only learning but also experiencing and spreading

Anh Duc is not only “wrapped” in books. He is also passionate about sports, winning high prizes in many badminton competitions at school. Duc also loves dancing and has explored more than 20 provinces and cities in China during his 2 years of studying abroad.

Outside the classroom, Anh Duc is also known through his TikTok channel teaching Chinese and sharing his experiences studying abroad and Chinese culture, attracting hundreds of thousands of followers and creating a strong influence. Duc also participates in teaching Chinese on television, hosting bilingual programs and working as an interpreter for many domestic and foreign organizations.

Anh Duc is one of a few outstanding Vietnamese students selected to participate in the ASEAN Education Week in Guiyang (2019) and the Southeast Asian Youth Exchange Week in Beijing (2023).

At the age of 24, Duc bought his first house in his hometown with the money he had saved from working for many years. For Duc, this is not only an asset but also a milestone reminding him to continue to strive.

“My family does not have a special economic background, everything started from scratch. I want this story to be a motivation for many young people: as long as you try, anyone can do it.

Of course, any success has its price: sweat, tears, late nights, stress, even sick days. People often only see the brilliant results but behind it are silent efforts,” Duc confided.

Duc believes that the difference lies in the way of looking at challenges: Some people give up in the face of difficulties, but Duc chooses to turn pressure into motivation, accepting both the good and the difficult sides, to move forward and mature every day.

Currently, Le Anh Duc is focusing on 4 years of doctoral studies at East China Normal University (China), while looking for opportunities to share and spread the image of a modern, dynamic young Vietnamese person to international friends.

“In 10 years, I will still be involved in education but in a more modern, comprehensive and large-scale way,” Duc hopes.

The young man's favorite saying is: "The reward of a job well done is to have done it." That is also the spirit that Le Anh Duc carries with him on his journey from a "second wish" years ago, to becoming a doctoral student in the world's leading academic environment today.
