On the afternoon of November 3, the Office of the Civil Defense Command of Quang Tri province said that the whole province currently has more than 100 flooded schools, causing 28,500 students in the communes of Nam Hai Lang, Hai Lang, My Thuy, Dien Sanh, Le Thuy, Ninh Chau, Bo Trach... to temporarily stop going to school.
In Nam Hai Lang commune, 21 schools were flooded, with water inundating the schoolyard from 0.5m to 0.6m; in which, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Hai Tan and Hai Hoa areas had water entering classrooms about 20-30cm.
Currently, there are more than 4,240 students temporarily absent from school. Of which, there are more than 750 preschool students; 2,720 middle and high school students; and 765 high school students.
Vinh Dinh commune also has 10 flooded schools. Specifically, 5 primary and secondary schools: Hai Xuan, Hai Vinh, Hai Ba, Hai Que, Hai Quy and 5 kindergartens. In response to the above situation, the locality has allowed more than 3,330 students to stay home from school to ensure safety.
Ninh Chau commune has 5 flooded schools. Primary schools, secondary schools and kindergartens in Tan Ninh area; kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools in Duy Ninh area have allowed students to stay home from October 30.
Meanwhile, Le Thuy commune has 23 flooded schools, more than 7,790 students temporarily absent from school.
In the communes of Quang Trach, Tuyen Binh, Tuyen Hoa, Dien Sanh, My Thuy, Bo Trach... many schools were flooded, forcing students to stay home to ensure safety.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri issued an official dispatch requesting heads of units and schools to closely monitor developments of heavy rain, floods, flash floods, landslides and other dangerous weather conditions to promptly inform and warn teachers, students and parents to proactively prevent and minimize damage.
At the same time, proactively coordinate closely with local authorities and forces to promptly evacuate students, staff, teachers and employees to safe places before storms and heavy rains occur. Ensure absolute safety for people; minimize damage to property, teaching equipment and school facilities.
The Department of Education and Training requests that, based on the specific situation in the locality, the head of the unit decides to let students stay home from school when there is a risk of unsafety. Do not organize teaching, travel through areas with deep flooding, fast-flowing water or risk of landslides or flash floods.
