Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Principal of Tay Ho High School (Tay Ho District, Hanoi ) - confirmed with Dan Tri reporter that the school's students achieved 9.0 IELTS.
The male student is Nguyen Han Bach, born in 2007, studying in class 11I2 - the school's IELTS orientation class.
Bach achieved perfect scores in all three skills: listening, reading, and speaking, and 8.5 in writing. Bach received these excellent results on February 4.

This is the first time Hanoi has a student who achieved 9.0 IELTS without studying at a specialized school or specialized system. Previously, most students with IELTS 9.0 certificates were students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
Principal Nguyen Anh Tuan said that Nguyen Han Bach is very passionate about English and shows outstanding ability in this subject. In the 2022-2023 school year, Nguyen Han Bach won first prize in English in the excellent student competition for grades 10 and 11 at the Ba Dinh - Tay Ho cluster.

Tay Ho High School is in enrollment area number 1. The school's entrance score is the lowest compared to the other 4 schools in the Ba Dinh - Tay Ho cluster including: Chu Van An High School, Phan Dinh Phung High School, Pham Hong Thai High School and Nguyen Trai High School.
In 2023, the benchmark score of Tay Ho High School is 38.75 points.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan said that the school has two IELTS-oriented classes, each with 35-40 students, with tuition fees of about 2.2 million VND/month. The school's implementation of this class model has initially shown effectiveness with many students achieving good results in English.
Recently, the school had three students winning the city-level English proficiency award: Vu Phuong Ha - class 12C2 (Second prize), Pham Gia Hung - class 12A8 (Third prize) and Ho Quynh Anh - class 12A3 (Encouragement prize).
As of December 2023, Vietnam only has about 10 people achieving 9.0 IELTS. Of which, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has 7 students.
IELTS 9.0 certificate is converted to 10 points in foreign language when applying to universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, University of Commerce...
In addition, IELTS certificates are also used as bonus points in some university admission methods such as considering the ability assessment/thinking assessment score + IELTS of the National Economics University; considering the thinking test score + IELTS of the University of Science and Technology. IELTS 9.0 certificate is converted to the maximum bonus point according to the conversion formula of each school.
