The recognition of Ngoc Linh Ginseng as a national heritage is an important milestone, demonstrating recognition of the treasure trove of valuable knowledge that the local community, especially the Xe Dang people, has distilled, preserved and passed down through many generations. From identifying ginseng in the deep forest, planting, caring and harvesting techniques to processing and using ginseng as a precious medicine, this folk knowledge is a vivid demonstration of the harmony between humans and nature, between culture and traditional medicine.
Authorized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, presented the decision to register "Folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng" in the List of national intangible cultural heritage. Mr. Hong emphasized: "Folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng is the crystallization of the process of living, working, summarizing experiences and passing them down through many generations of ethnic minorities in the mountainous region of Nam Tra My. The registration of this heritage is a testament to the strong connection between people and the mountains and forests, between indigenous knowledge and traditional cultural values that need to be honored and preserved."
The ceremony was not only an occasion to honor a precious cultural heritage, but also a strong message of solidarity, respect for traditional values and determination to preserve the soul of the mountains and forests. In the shining eyes of the artisans and people was faith in the future, pride in the identity of the homeland and the promise to continue together so that the heritage continues to be promoted through each generation.
Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc - Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee - said: "Nam Tra My District will continue to develop a specific plan to combine indigenous knowledge with modern science, organize teaching for the younger generation, and at the same time develop cultural and ecological tourism... We call for the cooperation of scientists, research organizations, businesses and communities at home and abroad to preserve and spread the value of this heritage."
At the ceremony, many artisans, village elders, and long-time ginseng growers were honored and shared authentic and touching stories about the journey of preserving precious ginseng varieties from the days of reclaiming forests and mountains to today when Ngoc Linh ginseng has become a cultural and economic symbol of the locality.
On this occasion, Nam Tra My district organized the art program Nam Tra My - Epic of ginseng and soil, attracting thousands of visitors.
