There are currently 11 ethnic minority boarding schools in the province, along with about 86 semi-boarding schools. With a system of specialized schools covering the entire province, it has contributed to expanding learning opportunities for ethnic minority children, reducing the financial burden on families and improving the quality of local human resources. According to a report from the provincial education sector, each year there are more than 4,100 boarding students and over 16,000 semi-boarding students who are ethnic minorities studying at these schools.
For example, Tri Le Primary Boarding School 2 (Tri Le commune). In the 2024-2025 school year, the school had 8 classes with 159 students, most of whom were children of ethnic minorities in the highlands. According to the school's report, at the end of the school year, the rate of students completing the primary school program reached 100%, over 80% completed all subjects well, more than 70% were awarded, of which 16.4% achieved the title of excellent students. At the same time, during the school year, the school's students won 2 third prizes at the provincial level in the Vietnamese Language Contest and nearly 20 district-level prizes in the fields of study, arts, sports , etc., contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education.
Not only paying attention to cultural knowledge, the development of education in ethnic minority areas is also closely linked to the preservation of national cultural identity. Every year, the provincial education sector actively organizes experiential activities, ethnic cultural festivals, and local culture discovery competitions, thereby helping students to be more proud and aware of preserving national identity. On that basis, many schools have proactively built models of ethnic language clubs, traditional costumes, combined with teaching folk songs, folk dances, and handicrafts, contributing to the formation of a comprehensive educational environment.
Practices at many schools show that traditional cultural education is receiving due attention. At Lien Hoi Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Diem He Commune), identity preservation activities are integrated into both teaching and daily activities. According to teacher Vy Thi Thuy Tho (teacher at the school), the school regularly organizes activities such as the "Tet in my hometown" festival, banh chung wrapping contest, ethnic costume performance, Tay and Nung language exchange. Teachers integrate local cultural elements into Literature, History, and Civic Education subjects to arouse national pride in students.
Not only expanding the scale or improving the quality of teaching, the education sector has also focused on synchronously implementing investment in learning conditions for ethnic minority students. Many schools have been interested in adding classrooms, boarding houses, kitchens, playgrounds, and sanitation facilities, creating a safe and friendly learning and living environment. Along with that, support policies for ethnic minority students such as scholarships, rice, personal items, travel and study expenses, etc. have been fully implemented, to the right subjects, promptly and transparently according to the provisions of Decree No. 116/2016/ND-CP and recently Decree No. 66/2025/ND-CP. These efforts have contributed to reducing difficulties, creating conditions for ethnic minority students to feel secure in going to class and excel in their studies.
Nguyen Thi Tuong Vy, a student at Cao Loc Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School, said: “I have been studying at the school since grade 6, and have been here for nearly 7 years. Here, I not only receive the attention and dedicated teaching of teachers, but also enjoy full boarding benefits such as accommodation, meals, books, and learning tools. Thanks to the good learning environment and encouragement from teachers, I have more motivation to try and orient my future career goals.”
With practical actions, the quality of education in ethnic minority areas in the province has improved significantly over each school year. In the 2024-2025 school year, according to the education sector's synthesis, the rate of ethnic minority students completing programs at all levels reached over 98%, many of whom achieved high results in excellent student competitions, cultural, sports and creative playgrounds at all levels. The rate of boarding students graduating from high school last school year reached 100%. In many schools in remote areas, the rate of ethnic minority students completing their subjects well is increasing, their awareness of learning is more positive, gradually narrowing the gap between regions.
It can be affirmed that the education of ethnic minority students in the province in recent years has achieved many positive results, making important contributions to the comprehensive development of education in the province.
