According to some medical facilities in the province, the number of patients coming for examination and treatment in recent days has increased by 10 - 15% compared to the same period last month.
Doctor CKI Bui Thi Thu Trang, Head of the Examination Department, Provincial General Hospital said: "Hot weather and high temperatures have a negative impact on health, especially for the elderly, children, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, and people who often have to work outdoors.
Prolonged heat increases the risk of dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, and immune deficiency, making the body susceptible to infectious diseases and causing fatigue, prolonged stress, and nervous breakdown.
In recent days, doctors at the Provincial General Hospital have regularly received cases of people with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, etc. who have had to be hospitalized for inpatient treatment due to the severity of their illness due to extreme weather. Some common diseases in children affected by weather factors are digestive disorders, acute diarrhea, chickenpox, hand-foot-mouth disease, seasonal flu, dengue fever, etc.
Hot weather also increases the risk of food poisoning, because high temperatures cause bacteria to continuously mutate and penetrate food, especially some types of bacteria such as Salmonella, E.coli and Listeria... According to the recommendations of the Department of Health, people should not use food that is improperly preserved, has a rancid smell, and has no clear origin.
Not only affecting health, the intense heat also affects agricultural production, drying up some vegetable areas due to lack of irrigation water and making it difficult to harvest rice. Many workers still have to struggle to make a living under the hot sun.
People’s daily lives have also been affected by the extreme weather. The demand for cooling devices such as electric fans, air conditioners and soft drinks has increased in recent days.
However, using too many cooling devices can lead to overloading the electrical system, increasing the risk of electrical short circuits and fires. Low humidity and dry air can also easily cause fires in materials such as wood, paper, dry waste, etc.
