What attracts young people to 'Mermaid' Halle Bailey?

Here's the interesting thing about Ariel, the Little Mermaid. Marshall spends most of the movie trying to fulfill Ariel's wish to become human. But in reality, most young girls who watch the movie dream the opposite way - they want to be a mermaid... or a Disney princess.

"The seaweed is always greener in someone else's pond" goes one of the film's songs, and the most important thing about remaking this beloved film for a new generation is maintaining the illusion that any of us could be Ariel.

The Little Mermaid is not only a famous Disney animated film, but also the film that launched the animation studio's renaissance in the 1990s, opening a series of hits including Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast … - all of which were remade in "live-action" style.

However, the case of "mermaid" Halle Bailey is special. Director Rob Marshall found Ariel. Just listen to Bailey sing Part of Your World , delivered with all the conviction of the performance of And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going - the song that made Jennifer Hudson's career - and you will understand why Rob Marshall is right!

A star is born. Rob Marshall places Halle Bailey on a cliff high above the ocean and huge waves crash against her back.

Ignoring her father's orders, Princess Ariel explores the forbidden seas, taking an interest in all things human. She keeps a cave full of things that have fallen into the sea, even going so far as to rescue one such person - Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) - and bring him back to the mainland. Ariel is taken by Eric's looks, and he is enchanted by her singing, but the two come from different worlds ...

Nearly an hour longer than the 1989 animated film of the same name, The Little Mermaid features a rather captivating seabed imagery, while also adding songs to the characters.

Halle Bailey's face and skin tone attract attention, adding bright eyes, long lashes and a radiant smile.

It's a shame that Rob Marshall applies so many distracting visual effects to the deep-sea sequences, designed to trick the eye into believing the actors did their work underwater: flowing hair, reflections, and lame filters, as if everything were seen through an aquarium.

After Disney announced that the main character in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid would be played by actress Halle Bailey, many viewers were extremely surprised. The main reason was that Halle Bailey is black while the original animated version is a white mermaid with red hair that has become too familiar.

If Halle Bailey is the big discovery of the film (despite her criticism), McCarthy is the undisputed winner. Made up to look like the evil stepmother, McCarthy is fantastic as the film's deep-sea villain.

Overall, The Little Mermaid attracts young audiences not because of the plot, because the content is too familiar, but the music through Halle Bailey's voice is interesting. The visual effects, although Rob Marshall cannot compare to James Cameron in Avatar: The Way of Water when showing underwater scenes, are still enough to reach the level of grandeur and brilliance.

The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem... and will premiere in Vietnam on May 26.
