Strengthening the application of digital technology to detect fire points early
With the forecast of many prolonged heat waves this dry season, Quang Nam province has proactively implemented fire prevention and control measures since the beginning of the year. Especially in mountainous districts, where there are large areas of forest and high risk of fire, fire prevention work has been tightened early.
In addition to adhering to the "4 on-site" motto, forest rangers and protective forest management boards have increased the application of digital technology to monitor and detect fires early. In Nam Tra My, the unit managing more than 54,000 hectares of forest has planned PCCCR since the beginning of the dry season, checked firebreaks, warning signs and fully equipped with equipment and human resources to respond to forest fires.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hien, Deputy Director in charge of Nam Tra My Protective Forest Management Board, said: "Forest protection forces are assigned to guide people on safe burning of vegetation, and at the same time increase mobile propaganda to raise fire prevention awareness in the community."
Quang Nam province currently has more than 680,000 hectares of forest, of which about 300,000 hectares are located in key fire-prone areas, distributed across 118 communes. According to the provincial Forest Protection Department, since the beginning of the year, the area has not recorded any forest fires. The unit regularly monitors early warning data via satellite images from the Forest Protection Department and the province's forest resource monitoring system to promptly detect fire outbreaks and notify localities for handling.
The whole province has established 360 PCCCR teams and groups with nearly 3,000 members, ready to be on duty throughout the dry season with the spirit of "fire prevention is better than fire fighting".

Proactive from the grassroots
In Quang Binh, since the beginning of the year, there have been 3 forest fires, burning down 1.8 hectares of production forests in Quang Ninh district. In this situation, the provincial Forest Protection Department has continuously issued many documents directing forest fire prevention and control work, and at the same time advised the provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to resolutely direct units and localities to carry out this task.
The Forest Protection Department has also coordinated with the Office of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Forestry Development to organize field inspections at localities and forest owners; directed the assignment of PCCCR duty schedules, and prepared adequate equipment such as blowers, brush cutters, and chainsaws. A notable step forward is the acceptance and use of a camera system for early detection of forest fires in Ngu Thuy commune, Le Thuy district.
In addition, Quang Binh province also pays special attention to propaganda work for people living near forests, strengthens warnings of forest fire risks, guides skills in safe handling of vegetation, and strictly prohibits the use of fire on days when forest fires are forecast at level III or higher. The application of technology such as monitoring warning bulletins from the Forest Protection Department and surveillance cameras is also promoted to detect and handle fire spots early.
In Binh Dinh , although there have been no serious forest fires since the beginning of the year, localities have proactively implemented many preventive solutions.
In the mountainous district of Vinh Thanh, which has 46,000 hectares of natural forest, forest owners and commune authorities such as Vinh Son have developed a fire prevention and control plan since the beginning of the dry season, focusing on patrolling, controlling and being ready according to the "4 on-site" motto.
The An Nhon Town Forest Protection Department also regularly coordinates with forested communes, militia forces and forest owners to patrol and monitor forests, especially in border areas. The unit also proactively monitors and warns of fire risks, controls the burning of vegetation after logging, and prevents fires from spreading.
Along with that, the province focuses on direct propaganda to each household living near the forest, especially ethnic minorities - a group that is prone to fire sources. The propaganda content is compiled concisely, easy to understand, easy to remember. The Provincial Forestry Development Steering Committee also updates the list of areas at high risk of forest fires on the common Zalo group of the units daily for timely warnings.
With proactive and close supervision in forest fire prevention and control work, Quang Binh and Binh Dinh are making efforts to control forest fires well in the dry season of 2025.
