Vietnam - US Reciprocal Trade: Striving for the Best Results in the 3rd Round of Negotiations

(Chinhphu.vn) - The two sides agreed to speed up the negotiation process, especially focusing maximum efforts to achieve the best results in the 3rd Round of Technical Negotiations.

Within the framework of the bilateral trade agreement negotiations between Vietnam and the United States, the ministerial-level negotiation session between Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Head of the Government Negotiation Delegation, and Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Head of the US Negotiation Delegation, took place on June 4, 2025 in Paris, France.

The two Ministers spent time assessing the implementation of the work agreed upon by both sides after the second round of technical negotiations, and discussed the direction for the next round of technical negotiations. On the Vietnamese side, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien informed the main points in Vietnam's response documents to the issues raised by the United States, and affirmed Vietnam's determination and goodwill in the process of finding a common voice and action with the United States. On that basis, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien asked US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to express his views on issues of concern to Vietnam.

For his part, Mr. Jamieson Greer highly appreciated Vietnam's goodwill, approach and handling of the issues raised by the United States, and acknowledged the efforts and constructive spirit of the Vietnamese Negotiation Delegation. He said that Vietnam is a Comprehensive Strategic Partner of the United States and therefore, reaching an agreement with Vietnam on the reciprocal tax policy at this time is not only important for Vietnam but also for the United States. He also responded quite positively to the issues that Vietnam was concerned about, and proposed a number of solutions to handle complicated issues during the negotiation process.

The two sides agreed to speed up the negotiation process, especially focusing on maximum efforts to achieve the best results in the 3rd Technical Negotiation Round. The two sides also agreed to assign technical levels to increase exchanges through online working sessions in content groups to maximally resolve remaining technical issues, creating the best momentum for the 3rd Technical Negotiation Round scheduled to be held in the first half of June 2025. Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Mr. Jamieson Greer pledged to continue to coordinate closely and are ready to conduct many ministerial-level exchanges to promote the negotiation process towards appropriate results for both sides.
