Attending this year's memorial service were former President Truong Tan Sang; former Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee (formerly) Truong Van Tiep; Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee Pham Tan Hoa.
Delegates respectfully offered incense to commemorate Admiral Nguyen Tan Kieu - who made many contributions to the fight against foreign invaders and to protect the homeland.

Former President Truong Tan Sang offers incense at the Temple of Admiral Nguyen Tan Kieu
Admiral Nguyen Tan Kieu was a Central Vietnamese who migrated to the South to make a living. He went to Gia Dinh to join the army to fight against the French colonialists. Thanks to his martial arts skills, he was appointed to command a militia. He brought his army to cooperate with Thien Ho Duong, was appointed as Admiral and then became Deputy General. He and Thien Ho Duong established a base to fight against the French in the Dong Thap Muoi region and this place truly became the new center of resistance in the years 1864 - 1866.

Admiral Nguyen Tan Kieu died in 1866, his remains were buried by the insurgents in Go Thap, Dong Thap province.


Activities at the 159th death anniversary of General Nguyen Tan Kieu
The memorial service for General Nguyen Tan Kieu is held according to traditional rituals such as praying for national peace and prosperity, offering incense, slaughtering pigs to worship the god, offering sacrifices to the god of agriculture and worshiping General Nguyen Tan Kieu. The festival is bustling with martial arts performances and opera performances, attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate.
Through activities to express the people's deep gratitude for the contributions of General Nguyen Tan Kieu, at the same time educate the tradition of patriotism for future generations, contributing to preserving and promoting the value of local historical and cultural heritage./.
