Important foundation for Dong Nai to develop green

With more than 370 thousand hectares of forest, of which natural forest accounts for nearly 49%, Dong Nai currently has the largest forest area and forest cover in the Southeast region, and biodiversity is therefore also in the leading position. In the context of increasingly complex urbanization and climate change, the advantage of forests and diverse ecosystems is an important foundation for the province to achieve the goal of developing a green economy, a circular economy, zero greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining a balance between economic growth and environmental protection.

One of the important development goals of Dong Nai in the 2025 - 2030 term is to develop digital economy , green economy, circular economy, sharing economy, knowledge economy; economic development goes hand in hand with cultural and social development, environmental protection, improving the material and spiritual life of the people. To develop the economy along with environmental protection, a strategic solution identified by the province is to conserve biodiversity, develop protective forests, special-use forests, etc.

Regional biodiversity center

Dong Nai has long been considered the center of biodiversity in the Southern region. After the province's merger, the whole province now has a world biosphere reserve, two national parks, a nature and cultural reserve, along with protective forests, mountains, wetlands and many areas with rich ecosystems. The most prominent is Cat Tien National Park, the core area of Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve. According to statistics, there are more than 1,600 species of plants and more than 1,700 species of wild animals. Bu Gia Map National Park is also one of the precious "green treasures" of the Southeast region, considered to have high biodiversity, with many rare species of animals and plants, valuable for research and conservation. Investigation results show that the area has more than 1,100 species of plants and more than 800 species of animals, including many rare species such as black-shanked douc langurs, rosewood, rosewood...

Cat Tien National Park has more than 1,600 species of plants and more than 1,700 species of wild animals.

Along with that, Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve is also a large "home" of many species of animals and plants listed in the IUCN Red Book, Vietnam Red Book and the list of endangered and rare species. According to statistics, this area has more than 1,500 species of plants (including 147 species in the endangered and rare group) and more than 2,200 species of animals (154 species in the endangered and rare group).

The above mentioned areas and protective forests, in addition to protecting the region’s typical ecosystem, also play a role in environmental protection, protecting upstream forests, hydroelectric projects and domestic water sources for residents of the Dong Nai River basin. This is also a great potential for developing ecotourism and scientific research.

Contribute to preserving "green treasure"

Thanks to the right policies such as closing natural forests, increasing investment in forest protection and development, biodiversity in the area has been preserved and developed. Dong Nai currently has the largest forest area and forest cover in the Southeast region. The whole province currently has more than 370 thousand hectares of forest, of which natural forests account for nearly 49%, planted forests about 38%, the rest is unforested land. The forest cover rate is more than 25%. Biodiversity is therefore in the leading position. In the context of increasingly complex urbanization and climate change, the advantage of forests and diverse ecosystems is an important foundation for the province to realize the goal of developing a green economy, a circular economy, zero greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining a balance between economic growth and environmental protection.

Despite its many potentials and advantages, in reality, the biodiversity value in the province has not been effectively exploited in a multi-purpose direction to create a corresponding value chain. Many areas with high ecological value have not been properly invested in. Ecotourism models such as: trekking, experiencing, watching night animals, bathing in waterfalls or tourism associated with environmental education, tourism to the source... are still small and lack overall connection. Along with that, conservation activities are facing many challenges from climate change, environmental pollution, encroachment on forest land and land in the semi-flooded area of Tri An lake... affecting the habitat of many rare species of animals and plants.

Implementing the sustainable forest management plan for the period 2021-2030, Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve has deployed a series of programs and projects to preserve and sustainably exploit socio-economic and environmental values. These include strengthening forest protection, restoring degraded ecosystems, controlling alien species and applying technology in monitoring; developing ecotourism, green economy associated with conservation... Bu Gia Map National Park will promote cooperation with domestic and foreign organizations in the fields of conservation, ecosystem restoration, scientific research and sustainable forestry development; maintaining the Animal Rescue Center to conserve biodiversity; applying digital technology in management to strengthen monitoring and early detection of risks...

Biodiversity is one of the important foundations for sustainable development. In the Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 and the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the term 2025 - 2030, Dong Nai has identified the goal of green growth, harmonizing economic development and environmental protection. To realize this goal, protecting, effectively exploiting, and economically using the values of forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, wetlands and rare genetic resources will contribute to preserving the "green treasure" and enhancing the position of the province.
