Industry and construction strive to overcome difficulties

With drastic solutions in the leadership and direction of the province, the efforts of departments, branches, localities, business community, and people in the province, in the first 6 months of 2024, Quang Ninh's economic growth rate reached 9.02%, ranking 4th in the Red River Delta, and 8th in the country. To achieve this result, there were efforts to overcome difficulties by branches, units, and enterprises in the industrial and construction sectors.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the province's industrial and construction sector increased by 7.68%, 1.12% higher than the growth scenario in the first 6 months of the year, contributing 3.91% to GRDP growth. In particular, the processing and manufacturing industry continued to play a new role as a driving force in the province's growth. In the first 6 months of 2024, the processing and manufacturing industry is estimated to increase by 23.05%, 10.3% higher than the same period in 2023, 0.79% higher than the 6-month scenario, contributing 2.9% to GRDP growth.

Some processing and manufacturing industries had high industrial production index (IIP) compared to the same period last year, such as: Production of electrical equipment increased by 711.93%; production of rubber and plastic products increased by 142.02%; repair, maintenance, and installation of machinery and equipment increased by 107.81%; production of beds, cabinets, tables, and chairs increased by 62.57%; textile industry increased by 28.03%; food processing increased by 22.77%; production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere increased by 22.01%.

To achieve this result, the province continues to direct sectors and localities to resolutely and effectively implement the 2024 working theme "Improving the quality of economic growth; developing culture and people rich in Quang Ninh identity". In particular, special attention is paid to promoting administrative reform, improving the investment and business environment, supporting and accompanying businesses; accelerating the completion of investment in traffic infrastructure, industrial park infrastructure, economic zones, and site clearance to increase attraction of investors in the processing and manufacturing industry.

By the end of June, the province attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) reaching 1.557 billion USD, equal to 51.6% of the 2024 plan (3 billion USD); of which 22 projects were newly granted investment registration certificates and 16 projects adjusted to increase capital. Mr. Huang Jin Xing, General Director of Foreign Affairs of Jinko Solar Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd., said: With synchronous infrastructure, along with superior policies, especially the dedication and responsibility of Quang Ninh province in supporting and accompanying businesses, including Jinko Solar, has helped businesses develop. Thereby, creating an important foundation for Quang Ninh to continue attracting investment projects in this field, gradually forming a synchronous, modern production chain, capable of international competition, enhancing the position of Quang Ninh economy in the global value chain.

Also in the first 6 months of 2024, the mining industry, focusing on the Coal industry, also made an important contribution to industrial and construction growth. Clean coal production reached over 21.8 million tons, up 2.5% compared to the 6-month growth scenario. Along with the efforts and determination of workers and officials in the coal industry, promoting the tradition and strength of "Discipline and Unity", the Coal industry also received attention and direction from the Central Government and the province in removing difficulties and obstacles, contributing to promoting production and business of the Coal industry, contributing to the economic growth of the province.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Diep, Deputy Director of the Coal Production Operation Center in Quang Ninh (TKV), said: With the responsibility of the largest coal supplier in the country, TKV commits to the Government not to let there be a shortage of coal for electricity production. In addition to ensuring the planned coal production output, the Group proactively imports coal to meet the production requirements of power plants. These results not only contribute to ensuring national energy security, but also contribute to the development of Quang Ninh province. In the first 6 months of 2024, TKV paid over 8,700 billion VND to the state budget in Quang Ninh.

However, in the construction sector, due to the sluggish real estate market, the growth of the construction industry was affected (estimated to increase by 9.45%, 0.47% lower than the scenario for the first 6 months of this year), contributing 0.5% to GRDP growth.

In order to maximize the role of the industry - construction sector in economic growth, the province continues to direct sectors, localities and units to create the best conditions, remove as much difficulties and obstacles as possible for the Coal and Electricity sectors to take advantage of market opportunities to increase resources for investment, develop reasonably and sustainably, ensure labor safety, and maximize output. Along with that, proactively grasp the situation, promptly resolve difficulties and obstacles, create favorable conditions, and soon put industrial processing and manufacturing projects into operation; remove obstacles in construction sites, leveling mines, public roads, staging areas, dumping sites, etc., especially for key and driving projects and works. In particular, investors are required to develop a chart of commitment to implementation progress and regularly check and closely monitor the implementation.
