Thailand's tourism industry revamps operations to attract foreign visitors

Thai authorities also warned foreign tourists to be wary of a fake TDAC site that asks users to pay a $10 processing fee, claiming the real site is completely free.

Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports has pledged to address concerns raised by foreign tourists in the "Land of the Golden Pagodas", including rampant double pricing at tourist attractions, after many complaints appeared on social media recently.

According to a VNA correspondent in Bangkok, these commitments were made by Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong after a meeting on April 30 with tourism executives and representatives from various agencies to discuss issues of concern that foreign tourists and foreigners in Thailand have recently raised on social media, notably concerns about safety, attacks, overcharging, threats from transnational criminal groups in tourist areas and extortion.

Mr Sorawong said any cases involving foreign tourists would now be reported directly to him by police.

Tourists can submit requests for assistance through the Thai Tourist Police app and a tourist assistance center has been set up in every province to assist visitors.

Responding to complaints about expensive accommodation, Mr Sorawong said this was often due to seasonal price adjustments, while rising airfares were a global problem due to a shortage of aircraft.

Minister Sorawong made clear his commitment to tackling tourism scams and ensuring fair prices for both domestic and foreign tourists, which means eliminating the dual pricing system at many tourist destinations today.

In response to the Thai Airlines Association’s request for more government support for businesses, Mr. Sorawong said the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will ask the Ministry of Transport to allocate time slots to pave the way for more flights, including charter flights, at major airports.

Meanwhile, officials believe the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), which came into effect on May 1, will help track the movements of foreign tourists and prevent any wrongdoing.

Thai authorities have clarified information about the new Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) for foreign visitors to Thailand effective from May 1.

The TDAC system replaces the paper TM6 immigration form that visitors usually use to fill in their personal information when entering Thailand. All foreign nationals entering Thailand by air, sea or land must complete the information declaration at the TDAC official website, after which they will receive an email that they can present upon arrival in Thailand.

The Thai Immigration Department also clarified misunderstandings about the deadline for submitting applications on the TDAC system, confirming that online applications can be completed by visitors within 3 days before arriving in Thailand, not “at least 3 days before arrival” as previously reported by some local media.

In addition, Thai authorities also warned foreign tourists to be wary of a fake TDAC website that asks users to pay a processing fee of $10, claiming that the real website is completely free.

In a statement regarding the digital entry card, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said “the system is fully ready and contingency measures have been put in place to ensure smooth operations.

In the initial phase, visitors who encounter any problems can temporarily use the paper immigration form,” in addition, there are computer terminals at the Immigration Counter at Suvarnabhumi Airport for visitors who need to fill out the TDAC form upon arrival./.
