With a total estimated investment of VND51.6 billion, the project will be implemented in three phases from 2025 to 2028. The project uses state budget capital combined with international funding, with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and four provinces of the Mekong Delta.

The project “Digital transformation for agricultural development: Establishing an agricultural information and data system in the Mekong Delta region to adapt to climate change” is expected to create a breakthrough in agricultural management and production in the region. The project has the participation of 4 provinces: Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu and Dong Thap, invested by the Institute of Agricultural Planning and Design, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the report, the project will build an information technology architecture framework for the agricultural sector; establish a portal to manage production processes (rice, coconut, mango, salt), along with software to collect, manage monitoring data and warn of salinity intrusion and drought in 4 provinces. An integrated mobile application will help connect people and businesses, increase production efficiency and market access.

The project also develops a training and communication plan to improve the capacity of managers, people and businesses on digital transformation applications; proposes mechanisms and policies for management, collection, connection and sharing of agricultural sector data.

To achieve the above objectives, the project will implement 5 components, including: Building an information technology architecture framework for the Mekong Delta agricultural sector; building an information portal for managing agricultural production processes; developing a training and communication plan; developing mechanisms and policies for managing, collecting, connecting and sharing agricultural sector data; project management, project monitoring and evaluation.

The completion of the project is considered an important step forward in the digital transformation of agriculture in the Mekong Delta. This is not only a solution to increase productivity and reduce costs, but also supports farmers and businesses to effectively adapt to climate change. Thereby, it aims to build a modern and sustainable digital agriculture, making the Mekong Delta a pioneering production area in the country's digital transformation of agriculture.
