On the afternoon of April 25, after 4 intense sets, VTV Binh Dien Long An finally defeated Kaohsiung Taipower (Taiwan) with a score of 3-1. The match witnessed the mark of Lu Thi Phuong, along with the good scoring ability of Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. This trio scored 19, 18 and 14 points respectively in the victory of the Vietnamese representative.
However, after the match, the home page of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) unexpectedly announced the best player of the match as Natalia Lijewska (VTV Binh Dien Long An). This was a somewhat surprising choice, as the Polish foreign player did not perform well in this match.
Lijewska scored only 6 points in the quarter-final match, while making 5 first-step errors in the first 2 sets. The decisive point in the second set that helped Kaohsiung Taipower win came from an easy serve situation, but the 23-year-old foreign player missed his first-step serve.
Also from that situation, coach Thai Quang Lai decided to take the Polish striker off the field. She only played in the first half of the match with modest statistics but received the title of best player of the match, voted by the host Philippines.
However, the most important thing that VTV Binh Dien Long An achieved was victory. The dramatic developments in set 4 ended the match very dramatically and the Vietnamese representative officially won the right to continue.
VTV Binh Dien Long An will meet Beijing BAIC Motor (China) again in the semi-final match taking place at 6pm tomorrow, April 26.
