This year's Cannes jury includes: American actors Paul Dano and Brie Larson, Moroccan director Maryam Touzani, French actor Denis Ménochet, British-Zambian writer and director Rungano Nyoni, French-Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi, Argentine director and screenwriter Damián Szifrón and French director Julia Ducournau, who won the Palme d'Or in 2021 for her film Titane.
Director Ruben Östlund and actress Charlbi Dean star in Triangle of Sadness . Dean passed away on August 30, 2022 at the age of 32 due to a serious illness.
The jury will award the Palme d'Or to one of the 21 films in competition. The awards will be announced on May 27 at the closing ceremony.
Östlund’s selection as jury president was announced by Cannes organizers on February 27, more than two months before the full jury was revealed. As in previous years, most of the jury members have directed or starred in films that have screened at Cannes.
Captain Marvel star Brie Larson is a relative newcomer to Cannes, despite starring in blockbusters like Kong: Skull Island, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame , and more. She'll next be seen this summer in Fast X, along with Lessons in Chemistry . Paul Dano has starred in two films that have screened at Cannes: Paolo Sorrentino's Youth and Bong Joon-ho's Okja .

Östlund is a familiar face at Cannes, having won the festival's top prize twice with Triangle of Sadness in 2022 and The Square in 2017. He has previously screened two films in Un Certain Regard, including the Jury Prize-winning Force Majeure .
Ruben Östlund is the first Swede to head the Cannes jury in 50 years, following in the footsteps of Ingrid Bergman. "I am delighted, proud and humbled to be entrusted with the honour of being entrusted with the role of President of the jury for this year's competition at Cannes," he said. "Nowhere in the world of cinema is the anticipation so intense before the announcement of the Palme d'Or winner as in Cannes."
