With the theme “Cultural Essence”, the opening night of DIFF 2025 officially opened a series of 6 fireworks displays lasting from May 21 to July 12, 2025, marking the longest and most magnificent festival season in the history of DIFF.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Trung Chinh - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City said: "With the theme "Da Nang - New Era", this year's Festival is not only a space for experiencing the pinnacle, full of emotions of light technology, art, music ... but also a symphony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang City, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country. This is an opportunity for us to affirm our aspirations and determination to rise up, an opportunity for Da Nang to affirm its position as "Asia's leading event and festival city" to continue to attract international friends to a dynamic, creative and friendly Da Nang".
“No other country has a fireworks festival with up to 10 fireworks teams competing like this. I believe it is absolutely possible to propose to put DIFF 2025 into the Guinness Book of Records” – Ms. Nadia Shakira Wong, CEO of Global 2000, the world's leading fireworks consulting company, affirmed.
Affirming the irresistible charm of the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang and its dazzling fireworks displays along the Han River, over 10,000 seats in the grandstands for the opening night of DIFF 2025 were completely filled. Spectators enthusiastically welcomed a multi-sensory artistic feast of music, light, and AR technology , offering unique and unprecedented experiences. In particular, the dramatic "clash" between the host team Da Nang (Vietnam 1) and the reigning champion Joho Pyro (Finland) successfully created a brilliant Asian-European cultural encounter in the Da Nang sky.
The "powerful" comeback of Da Nang team and defending champion Finland
Deserving to be the opening team for the biggest DIFF season in history, the host team Da Nang surprised thousands of spectators and made them burst with pride with a completely new and explosive return with skillful fireworks techniques. For more than 20 minutes, more than 5,000 fireworks simultaneously sublimated, intertwined with music to create a magnificent symphony of light, sending a spirited greeting to the people and visitors on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the city's liberation.
The four fireworks chapters: Harmony – Honor – Integration – Pioneering & Glory tell the story of Vietnamese culture's journey to the world. From the sparkling rain effects, soft color-changing fireworks to waterfall fireworks, simultaneous explosions like waves sweeping across the space, the audience is drawn into a flow of emotions from profound to explosive.
Opening with the fireworks effects, all programmed precisely to the second on the international music Bonjour Vietnam , Titanium , Top of the Rock, depicting a vibrant, integrated and constantly developing city. Then moving to the next chapter, the beloved image of the country and flags appeared on the music of the City of Light and Glory, making the audience admire . The emotional climax was when the fireworks created Ngu Hanh Son appearing in the night sky, blending with the ocean waves, as if sending a message of connection and identity of the city on the ocean shore.
Each fireworks show is a slice of depth, from traditional identity to the aspiration to reach out to the world, from national pride to the dynamic spirit of innovation. More than just a competition team, Da Nang once again demonstrates its role as a “storyteller of light”, affirming its position as a city of creativity, integration and connection on the international festival map.
“The opening of the DIFF season could not have been more wonderful. As a Da Nang resident, I was very moved and proud to witness the performance of the host team celebrating the 50th anniversary of the city’s liberation. Every year, my family and I hunt for tickets to go to the stands to enjoy the festival atmosphere, but this year is the year that impressed me the most, the best performance of the Da Nang team,” Ha Linh, a Da Nang resident happily shared.
Unlike the brilliant, warm and magnificent performance of the host team from the tropics, the performance of “Nordic Lights” by the Finnish team brought a completely different atmosphere, deep and intense like the Nordic spirit itself. Opening with the boiling pop rock melodies such as Diamond Eyes, Liar, Heroes Are Calling, the audience was immediately drawn into the intense emotions of the story of a nation living between the ocean and ice, from thousands of small islands.
The first bursts of fireworks erupted like waves, surging ashore, then suddenly calming down to the music of Stormskärs Maja, a poignant Nordic ballad reminiscent of wooden boats drifting silently through the mist of the Baltic Sea. Water fireworks, the "masterpiece" that brought Finland victory at last year's DIFF, continued to be creatively utilized. From the surface of the Han River, the fireworks seemed to emerge from the water, gliding gently before suddenly erupting violently like columns of waves crashing against the cliffs. The light effects moved gracefully like underwater currents, intensely reminiscent of the harsh survival journey of the people of the remote islands.
The Finnish team unexpectedly heightened the drama by switching to a series of high-altitude fireworks. The entire sky lit up with streaks of bright green, violet, and pink fireworks, flashing like the aurora borealis, a magical natural phenomenon of Northern Europe, transporting the audience straight to the cold skies of Lapland.
In particular, during one fireworks display, the Vietnamese audience gasped in delight when they heard "Bóng phù hoa – Vũ trụ cò bay" (Fleeting Shadows – The Universe of Flying Cranes) playing amidst the performance. A Vietnamese song, yet it resonated with the sounds of exploding fireworks, giving it a Nordic feel, like a friendly greeting, demonstrating the JoHo Pyro team's integration and respect for the local culture. The clusters of fireworks intertwined in a fan shape, swirling like flying cranes, creating a magical moment of intersection between two seemingly unrelated cultures.
Unique art night on the banks of the Han River
Besides the thrilling competition of light and sound from the competing teams, audiences at this year's DIFF opening ceremony also enjoyed a unique and unprecedented artistic space. For the first time at a fireworks festival, large-scale outdoor augmented reality (AR) technology was used via the Sun Paradise Land application. Not only did it integrate vivid graphic effects directly onto each paper ticket, but this AR experience also extended to the entire picturesque Han River area.
The Sky AR project, the outdoor virtual reality system of DIFF 2025, has a "huge" scale with a coverage of up to 600,000m² and nearly 10 million pixels. This is the largest outdoor AR system ever applied in a cultural - tourism event in Vietnam. In particular, each graphic effect is "tailored" according to each theme of the competition nights, creating artistic, vivid and highly personalized visual performances.
On the opening night, just by holding up their phones to the sky, the audience could see the Cham towers, inspired by the world's largest Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang, which is preserving more than 2,000 artifacts bearing the mark of ancient culture amidst the modern pace of life. Or admire the graceful, mysterious and enchanting Cham dances of a land of cultural exchange. The image of Whale swimming in the night sky of Da Nang , carrying the belief of favorable weather and safe fishing of the residents of the Central Coast, made many tourists excited.
The opening night was also marked by the performance “Lullaby of the Country” combining the powerful voices of divo Tung Duong and singer Kieu Anh, along with a professional dance troupe. Immediately after, singer Thu Hang, former Sao Mai champion, continued the heroic atmosphere with the song “Dawn of Da Nang”, as a proud confession about the land on the Han River that is growing stronger day by day, ready for a new brilliant era. The melody has a traditional sound, combined with a contemporary treatment, bringing the audience into an engaging space, where Vietnamese cultural identity is expressed with emotional sounds.
The series of performances with the theme “Vietnamese Aspiration” by singer Nguyen Tran Trung Quan and the elaborate staging of the dance troupe evoked the national spirit and the desire to reach far. In particular, “Beautiful Sister” singer Kieu Anh returned with the performance “Phong Nu x Co Doi Thuong Ngan” which has caused a media fever recently, with the mystical colors of Mother Goddess worship, imbued with Vietnamese culture, creating a new highlight in the artistic flow of the program.
The stage atmosphere became even more enthusiastic with the performance “Fly Me To The Moon” and the traditional Finnish dance performed by Mai Trang Dance Group in a free and varied style, taking the audience “flying” through a borderless artistic space. The bustling and explosive Can-can dance ended the emotional opening night, like a vibrant invitation to visitors: continue to accompany DIFF 2025 – “Da Nang – New Era” in the upcoming fireworks nights.
David, a tourist from the US, said: “It was amazing. I have never been to a more beautiful and spectacular fireworks festival. Not only fireworks, Da Nang has technology and music. If you are hesitant, don’t think anymore, you must go to the stands to feel this passionate atmosphere. I will definitely come back the next night.”
Following the opening ceremony, fireworks displays will be held every Saturday night for the next few weeks, with a one-week break before the final night. The themes and participating teams are as follows:
Contributing to the success of the festival are major sponsors such as Vietnam Airlines and Bizman Media (Diamond sponsor), Chicilon Media (media sponsor), and many other prestigious partners such as Pacific Airlines, Hai Tran Media & Airs Group, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV).
