According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in North Africa, the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially included the traditional Moroccan kaftan costume in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the World, marking a significant milestone in recognizing the value of this traditional craft.

On social media platform X, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture stated that this decision was adopted on December 11th during a meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage held in India.

Morocco submitted its nomination earlier this year, emphasizing the rich history, diversity, and development of intangible cultural values associated with kaftan.

More than just a traditional and aesthetically pleasing garment, the kaftan is also considered a symbol of Moroccan national identity, craftsmanship, and cultural pride.

This type of attire, often worn in important social and religious events, has evolved over eight centuries and is now celebrated by many renowned fashion designers.

The Moroccan Ministry of Culture affirmed that the kaftan "embodies a unique technical and aesthetic heritage," and expressed gratitude to the artisans and the community for preserving this national cultural heritage.
