On July 21, hundreds of migrants from about 10 countries left Mexico's southern border in search of a way to the United States.

The caravan, which includes many families with children, is considered one of the largest in recent months.
The incident took place in the context of the Republican Party officially nominating former US President Donald Trump - who has a hardline stance on immigration - as the party's candidate to run for president in the US presidential election next November.
AP news agency reported that some members of the migrant caravan said they hoped to reach the US border before the election, fearing that if Mr. Trump wins, he will fulfill his promise to close the border to asylum seekers.
According to activists, the caravan of migrants moved slowly, covering 40 km on the first day from Ciudad Hidalgo to the city of Tapachula and continuing the journey the next day.
Data from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shows that about 324,000 citizens of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador arrived at the southern US border in 2023.
Migration in Mexico has increased significantly since 2018, when caravans of thousands of people, mainly from Central America, began arriving in the country's border cities, seeking to cross into the United States.
The flow of migrants to these localities has continued to increase in recent years, despite the Covid-19 pandemic as well as preventive measures from relevant countries.
On July 19, outgoing Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that he would send a letter to former President Donald Trump (term 2017-2021) to correct information about migration activities and border issues between the two countries because he believed that Mr. Trump had received false information about these issues.
The Mexican leader's letter will also address the importance of maintaining economic integration between Mexico, the United States and Canada.
