Crafts and rural industries are the "support" for rural development.
The new point this year is that the winning products and typical works of the contest will be displayed at the Exhibition "Colors of cultural heritage, nature and traditional handicrafts of Vietnam" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Nghe An Provincial People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and relevant units in Nghe An province (from November 22-26, 2024).
“By participating in this Exhibition, we hope to firstly elevate the profession, works, and products as evidence of the intangible and tangible heritage of Vietnamese professions and products; Second, it is very meaningful to be held in the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh - a leader who is very interested in developing handicrafts as he said that handicrafts and rural industries are the foundations for rural development” - Mr. Thinh shared.
Vietnam is one of the few countries with a large number of craft villages, especially traditional craft villages. Rural areas across the country have 5,400 craft villages, of which about 2,212 are recognized as craft villages and nearly 400 are traditional craft villages.
With over 2,000 traditional craft villages, handicrafts are always in the top 10 largest export items of Vietnam. Rural industries are creating a value of nearly 300,000 billion VND per year and exporting to 164 countries and territories with a value of about 3 billion USD/year.
According to Mr. Thinh, the professions not only bring economic material, welfare, jobs, but most importantly, they are also cultural sediments from North to South, through regions such as: bronze casting, bamboo and rattan weaving, jewelry, embroidery, lacquerware...
